Audrey Strauss has been a behind-the-scenes force in the U.S. attorneys office in Manhattan as it pursued cases against people connected to President Trump. One Friday afternoon in August of 2018, lawyers for President Trumps longtime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, made a final bid for leniency to federal prosecutors in Manhattan. He was facing charges including that he paid hush money on Mr. Trumps behalf to an adult film star during the 2016 campaign.
Audrey Strauss, one of two senior prosecutors in the room, listened silently to the pitch, smiling at the lawyers but letting others do the talking, people familiar with the meeting said. Over the next few days, however, Ms. Strauss played a key role in the momentous decision to proceed against Mr. Cohen, a move that infuriated the White House.
Now, Ms. Strauss, a 72-year-old former defense lawyer known for her understated style, has been forced into the spotlight, taking over as the acting U. S. attorney in the storied prosecutors office, which continues to find itself in the presidents cross hairs. She will lead politically sensitive investigations into people in Mr. Trumps orbit in the run-up to a hotly contested election, and her decisions will be scrutinized.
Ms. Strausss appointment happened with dizzying speed. In the span of 24 chaotic hours this weekend, President Trump and his attorney general, William P. Barr, had tried to oust her boss, Geoffrey S. Berman, and replace him with one of Mr. Barrs allies.

I love all the trump Toady references. No human looks more Toady than Barr and lives up to severe Toady-ism. For those non-believing evolution fools, its in your face in real time. Hell we have a Turtle evolving into a toad in full view. We also have de-evolution on full display with MAGAT brains. Science is awesome and working at warp speed. The damn Artic hit 90+ degrees last week. Science will win against the most ignorant of species, and take it out.

(111,222 posts)Considering how much methane is sequestered in Siberian permafrost, this is very bad news, especially for land dwelling organisms.
However, returning to the subject at hand, I hope Ms. Strauss paid attention to what John Kerry was doing a little more than 30 years ago. He did an end run around the DOJ and Congress and sent pertinent materials on Iran-Contra to state courts.
With Federal courts thoroughly stacked with RWNJs by McConnell, they might need to be bypassed for some time.

(8,707 posts)I hope she is using her time that Barr is tied up, to do exactly what you are saying. The Law and Order party, needs to face Law and Order consequences. This is a desperate minute in our democracy. Barr can end it all in coming weeks. We need John Goodman to squeeze and smash that toad against a tree.

(2,270 posts)..just how the hell this story isn't being screamed from the rooftops! Sure we've all had a great laugh at this Tulsa joke but.... what happened to this story? It's MAJOR news and fraught with serious, dire consequences not only for Justice but for our whole system of checks and balances.
We're laughing, me too btw, at the Tulsa debacle and not watching the arsonist lighting the match.
