The New York Post reported on Monday that the police officers who were alleged to have been poisoned at Shake Shack never even got sick.
It was widely reported last week that the three officers had become sick after drinking milkshakes ordered at Shake Shack, and that the beverages may have been tainted with bleach, however the New York Post disputed conspiracy theories in a report based on unnamed sources.
According to the Post, the three NYPD police officers never even got sick, and there wasnt the slightest whiff of criminality from the get-go. <...>
Soon after sipping the shakes, however, the cops realized they didnt taste or smell right, so they threw the drinks in the trash and alerted a manager, who apologized and issued them vouchers for free food or drink, which they accepted, the Post reported. But when the cops told their sergeant about the incident, the supervisor called in the Emergency Service Unit to set up a crime scene at the fast-food joint for an evidence search around 9:20 p.m. nearly two hours after they first got the sour shakes.
The three officers were also reportedly sent to hospital, despite not showing any symptoms of poisoning, before a lieutenant from the Bronx blasted out an email to the unions that six cops started throwing up after drinking beverages they got from shake shack on 200 Broadway,' which the Post said escalated the situation.https://www.mediaite.com/crime/new-york-post-reports-nypd-lied-to-escalate-shake-shack-scandal-and-that-officers-never-even-got-sick/

(11,730 posts)Police have gotten the benefit of the doubt for many years because of the dangerous nature of the job and because there has been the desire to accept that police are honest.
There have been more and more episodes that show that police behave dishonestly. This is yet another example. Was it a mistake that got blown out of proportion? OR was it deliberate deception, designed to paint the police as victims and shift blame.

(38,310 posts)... and most of those deaths are ordinary traffic accidents.
Taxi and Limo drivers have it worse and are generally discouraged from shooting unruly passengers.
I've been a construction laborer and a grounds maintenance worker. Both of these jobs are more dangerous than police work.
Commercial fishing and logging are the most dangerous jobs in the U.S.A., six or seven times more dangerous than being a cop.
Farming is more dangerous. All sorts of horrible things happen to farmers. They get mangled up in machines, they suffocate in manure pits, they are killed by animals, they work too many hours and fall asleep driving...
The most difficult job I ever had was teaching science in a rough underfunded public school. I doubt most cops could do that. Teachers are not allowed to shoot, taze, or beat up students who are discipline problems. They don't get a lot of backup from administrators. I've also worked in places that serve alcohol to rough people who have scary tattoos and ride big motorcycles.
We'd have much better cops if some kind of social work was a prerequisite to becoming a cop. If someone can handle a classroom overcrowded with forty students, half whom would rather be anywhere else, and a few who have a history of violence, then they could probably handle a drunk guy sleeping in his car without any violence.

(29,322 posts)You're right it is dangerous. I worked New Year's and I was making a lot of money I was afraid of getting robbed. I was also afraid of getting into accident or pulled over because Old Town Scottsdale was crowded so I went to Arizona State. I took the money out of my wallet and put it in the glove compartment. Mill Avenue was closed and there was a row of people on the side of the street. I let 3 passengers in and was pulled over for stopping in the street. I had my glove compartment open for the cop and didn't realize until later my passenger took all my money. I thought it was odd they wanted me to stop at Jack-in-the-Box and order like 30 tacos.

So .. the three officers that got the shakes .. pitch the shakes, alert the store, accept apology and comp for shakes .. go on their way .. no big deal.
People not involved in incident .. NUCLEAR! .. crime scene! .. deliberate poisoning! .. hospital .. union alert! .. "six cops throwing up"
