Arizona megachurch claims Trump event will be safe because their air purification system kills ‘99.9 percent’ of COVID-19

Snip

A megachurch pastor hosting a President Donald Trump rally this week in Arizona says he has installed an air purification system that he claims will kill the coronavirus.

Dream City Church Pastor Luke Barnett and chief financial officer Brendan Zastrow announced in a promotional video that Clean Air Exp had developed a product that would eliminate nearly all traces of the virus from the air, reported TMZ....

The Centers for Disease Control has not confirmed that ionization is effective against the coronavirus.

which is what's likely to happen. What good is it then, even assuming it actually works as advertised?

There is a new system which claims to use UV light and filters to eliminate airborne bad things

Tommy Barnett, 1st pastor of this church, founded the first Dream Center in an extremely 'troubled' area of LA

That Center is now headed by his son Matthew. The Phoenix church is led by his son Luke.

There are now Dream Centers in poor areas of many cities. There is one in (North) Tulsa.

From what I have heard, Dream Centers have helped many people. (In 90s I knew young woman who worked in the one in Tulsa.

There is an article on Dream Center in Wikipedia

Air conditioners and or air purifiers re-circulate the air . . therefore, the virus can be re-circulated back into the atmosphere in a given space.

...won’t hit you. 99.9% of the time that person you encounter on the street isn’t the next Jeffrey Dahmer. 99.9% of the time your fast-food hamburger won’t have botulism.

Would those odds work for you?

So this Place uses 3M 2800 micron A/C filters,hmmmm.99.9 % effectiveness. Does not mention anything about Viral Spores on any of the disclaimers on my filter packaging. Do know they really keep the dust level down in the house.

and electrostatic. Will filter down to .1 micron. Yes, makes a huge difference to air quality - we have long-haired pets. In fact, it is life-changing in the feeling of wellness. The accumulation of bad air particles in these machines in a week is incredible. But does that we can throw a party and be safe of Covid? No.

Sometimes I will feel a little short of breath or I get palpitations. I know that is because I haven't cleaned out the machines recently. I clean them out and half an hour later, I've recovered. This time of year when our dogs are shedding makes a huge difference.

He cannot guarantee that audience attendees will breathe no virus droplets or aerosols because removal rate is a function of air exchange rate and a lot of other factors of physics. In order for such a claim to be even partially valid, the wind in the place would make you hair stand up.

His system only kills virus particles and particles entrained in aerosols and droplets that make it to the filtration system.
