Phoenix has mandatory masks....the mayor waived it for the trump event.

Phoenix Mayor Gallego: Mask policy won’t be enforced at Trump event

PHOENIX — Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said on Sunday that the city’s policy requiring face masks to be worn in public will not be enforced during President Donald Trump’s upcoming event at a Valley megachurch.

“We are not going to be focused on enforcement during the rally,” Gallego said during an appearance on CNN.

She added that she is hopeful Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey — who will attend the event — will take the opportunity to set an example regarding mask usage.
“We would hope that our governor … can send a strong message,” she said.

By a 7-2 vote, the Phoenix City Council issued a declaration Friday requiring those within city limits to wear a face covering when they are in public to curb further spreading of the coronavirus.

People cannot be that gullible - this is worse than Jim Jones although people will simply leave the church.

Dems need some ads on this one - no church has the right to expose people to this virus. Family first not first family only

Still ACLU should question whether members of this Megachurch are being forced to attend.

And Dems should be on talk radio in Arizona pounding this issue.

1/3 of AZ’s #COVID cases came in last week. Every new case is someone’s loved one—we must not become desensitized. Elected officials should send the strongest message possible, in both their words and actions, that our fight against this virus is not over.

Between a bar with a capacity of 50, and a megachurch.
Also, Arizona's policy is first time warning. Then fines UP TO $250.
Quit making it like Mayor Gallego is playing favorites for Trump. She's in an impossible situation by the President and Gov. Ducey.
We can all entertain fantasies about A cop going up and giving Trump a ticket, or shutting down the church (and likely causing a riot).
But it ain't gonna happen. And it's foolish to think it will.

The reality is that it shouldn't happen, the people organizing it should step up and cancel it.
But cops aren't going to ticket 3000 attendees, including the President, at the rally. To expect that to happen is a fantasy. Not because they shouldn't, not because the mayor gave a special dispensation (which she didn't), but because it is a logistical nightmare.
What is likely going to happen is that there will be people there passing out information about the risks of not wearing masks, as well as the bare minimum precautions taken in Tulsa (temp checks and free masks).

Trump and every Republican office holder in Arizona would love the opportunity to publicly ignore and humiliate her. Which is exactly what would happen. This is not a fight she can win.

Cause I live in Phoenix and have heard jack shit about church members being forced to attend this. The church didn't even know it was a Trump rally until after it agreed to it. A third party group (Teens for Trump or some such nonsense) booked the venue.

do you think they will peacefully comply? Do you think she is going to arrest Trump when he shows up? Trump would love an opportunity to publicly humiliate a democratic mayor and there is literally nothing that will stop him.

Attendees can be screened at the door.

We have a mandatory mask requirement. The penalty is a fine. It is a civil thing. No one gets arrested.

She has only has so much political capital. This is not the time to waste it. A bunch of cops are not going to go there and start writing citations. It would set off a political shit show that will accomplish nothing.
