drooling and whimpering, till someone finally relented and tossed it for him to fetch. I tried hiding the damned ball, but he wouldn't give up, snuffling around in every nook and cranny of the house, trying to find it and present it to me again so I could resume throwing the chewed up, yellow thing. The dog drove everyone crazy. I should have named him Trump.

It's the disturbing logic of hiding inconvenient truths so you can deny that you have a problem...and if there is a problem demonstrated, contest the facts, put a spin on it, distract people, or blame someone else!
