While I question whether any of the Lafayette Square vandalizing of the church is BLM-related, I agree with Hoarse Whisperer--we need to identify who they (predominantly white protesters) were.Shaun King talking about taking down stained glass windows.
Idiots graffitiing a church.
Nice work, geniuses. Way to undermine weeks of peaceful protests.[/d]

(11,849 posts)This is a massive and growing movement that needs national leadership and messaging focus right away.
They risk letting themselves be defined by destroying public property. That is, sadly, going to loose them a lot of support from the public officeholders that they need in their corner.
Channeling the righteous anger of protesters is one of the most difficult maneuvers in public campaigns for justice.

It doesn't...
.. and that deflection wont work this time, we already know stupid people do stupid things.
Trump is tweeting black people attacking Americans this morning, should anyone give that overt deflection a second of concern seeing he's retweeting legit videos right?
No, I'm not defending him at all I'm pointing out his deflection not pointing out we should be concerned about it.
False expectation and equivalence deflections and don't need any attention just like any idiots doing idiotic things everywhere.
Unless it becomes a pattern, the exceptions will always be pointed out by deflectors

I am sick of anyone who mentions god or jesus getting a free pass.
They have infiltrated our government ignoring Separation of Church and State.
If they want to be political they should pay taxes like the rest of us.
Their anti science and free loading has gone on long enough.

(102,225 posts)If you can't see that the RW will make vandalizing churches the issue, rather than violence against African Americans and other POC AND police violence in general I can't help you. I wouldn't doubt it if they held up a ridiculous and obscene false comparison between such actions against churches and the horrific historical burning of black churches in the South by KKK and others. Even the unspeakable bombing of the Birmingham church in 1963, where those little girls perished.
It is highly possible these acts of vandalism may be coming from infiltrators as has been seen elsewhere across the country. To not work to expose them as clearly NOT being a part of BLM is to enable their dismantling of the message.

(22,326 posts)I've found I usually hear more worry about how the right wing might twist something than actually twisting from the right wing, and that moderating worry hurts the momentum of the movements I agree with more than the full-volume blathering of reactionaries on the right.

(12,712 posts)In order to support BLM and a real democracy, we may have to consider quelling our taste for capitalism, because it really comes down to that.
The violence we are talking about is actually inherit in the the system and that system is influenced and controlled by capitalism, in a very distorted sense.
Democracy and capitalism are not really compatible and that's coming to a head now. Decade after decade of manipulation and expert propaganda has given us a belief system that is relies on inequality, poverty, violence and exploitation to function.
In order to defend and grow democracy now, each one of us will have to reevaluate our views on many things we took to be givens, or we will succumb to a relentless oligarchy and end up with no more options.
This is a pivotal time. Solidarity is essential, no matter what.

(11,949 posts)No system that is not in some way capitalist has ever even been a democracy.
Unregulated capitalism is the problem. To the point where only those with lots of capital benefit. We can see in Europe and our past how to regulate capitalism to insure its ability to increase wealth works for everyone.

(35,325 posts)I have seen the protests they are pretty much a diverse group of people. But when something bad happens
I always see the blame put on the white people that were there supporting the cause.

(102,225 posts)--including previously unreported violent groups. They are obviously white, but exposing them for who and what they are and what they are doing, only underscores that the majority of white supporters are there to join with the BLM movement.

(102,225 posts)Suspect in killing of 2 Bay Area officers tied to right-wing boogaloo group, prosecutors allege
The security officers were shot while guarding a federal building in downtown Oakland during a protest over the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. The pair used the protest as a cover for their plans to attack law enforcement, said FBI Special Agent In Charge Jack Bennett.
There are others... During the midst of protests there were a lot of videos and still-shots of white people committing vandalism and looting. Several BLM activists called them out for doing so. In Atlanta, those looting Lenox Square mall and other upscale venues were shown to be white teens that local officials claimed were not associated with BLM but opportunists or RW instigators.
Google for more. I don't know why you discount the phenomenon of RW instigation. It is their MO. We ignore at our own harm
