Apparently, the employee was on an internal phone call (these are recorded by Macys) - so he did not call the attackers any offensive names.

I know the video was posted here on DU (not sure if the follow-up was also posted?)
Here's the 'viral' video:

A HERETIC I AM
(24,365 posts)I had this OP open on a window for a few hours, and just came back to it to see what kind of conversation it had promoted.
Interesting that it was a not a bloody sausage.
Bugger all.
Nada.
Why is that, Im curious?
If this video involved a white guy recording his white friend knocking down a black store clerk while verbally abusing him, would it have gotten more traction?
If it bleeds, it leads is an old trope in the broadcast news industry, but it clearly applies to DU as well.
This black man may have been justified in his anger, of that I have no doubt, but why is it that NOT ONE SINGLE MEMBER, out of the over 700 that clicked on this thread since its posting at quarter to twelve this morning, had anything at all to say about it?
Why?
That guy fucking hit that other guy, repeatedly. IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING DEPARTMENT STORE!!
Was it justified?
I suppose I am just as guilty as anyone of having little more than a passing interest in a video of a black dude smacking around a white Macys floor clerk.
He must have done SOMETHING to deserve it, right?
The participation rate of a given thread on a random topic on this board is always amusing.
AND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE SLOW ON THE UPTAKE;
Im simply calling out hypocrisy, plain and simple. Why is it that video of one episode of social impropriety gets traction and comments on DU, and another, similar one does not?

(11,899 posts)I live in SE Michigan so this incident from Flint had local coverage. Both suspects have been identified and are being sought by law enforcement.
The comments on the local newspaper sites were quite telling. Generally the white commenters were outraged and the black commenters thought it was funny saying that the store clerk acted scared and afraid.
According to the store, the clerk was making an internal phone call that was recorded and there was no racial insult made. I don't know how anyone justifies a store employee getting punched in the face multiple times by a customer. The fact that the second suspect was ready to video the attack isn't something that one would expect from something spontaneous.

(64,951 posts)...I didn't see it. Is not commenting on a post I didn't even see acceptable? Seems a reasonable excuse to me.
But, here's my comment. People attacking other people, provoked or not, is bad form. If physically provoked, there are consequences to starting a fight.
