(18,486 posts)They said the noose has been hanging in that stall since last year but Bubba wasn't assigned the garage until a few days ago, so it wasn't likely targeted at him.
I, for one, am relieved that it probably wasn't a hate crime.

(18,486 posts)But I'm also relieved when I find out that something is not as nefarious as it originally appeared.
I would bet that Bubba Wallace is relieved, also.
The good thing is that no one was wrongly accused and the NASCAR folks had a wonderful opportunity to show support and solidarity with one of their own. That matters.

(13,104 posts)Just because it was there before Wallace doesnt explain it. And of all the ways a rope could be done to pull a door, a noose was the option? Smells like bullshit.

For now, I'm going with the FBI - but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

(9,350 posts)CBS This Morning showed video of what I thought was the garage in which the "rope" was hanging. From my point of view it looked like a noose. I looked for the video on YouTube, but I could not find the video at the CBS This Morning page.

(9,350 posts)What was seen in that video was definitely not a string.

(48,975 posts)And according to what I heard, no other stall in that section of the garage had a pull rope knotted like that.

(31,261 posts)Used to open and close the garage door. If done correctly, they will look like a noose. I see it as a non-issue.

(48,975 posts)Especially if none of the other pull ropes nearby had that loop or knot, as was the case according to what I read.

(31,261 posts)But I have seen many garage pull strings set up that way. Obviously I didn't see it close up, but from photos, it looked innocent enough to me.
There is another detail that was reported, Watson wasn't even supposed to use that particular bay, he was assigned another one, but a race delay caused a re-assignment. Maybe someone in the know took advantage of that to pull a racist stunt, I don't know. But a loop on a garage pull rope would not excite me.

(14,531 posts)and they use a rope to pull a garage door closed?

(1,207 posts)Rural fire department--- had the power go out. Got a call that another unit had to respond to because we couldn't get the door open--- the rope was rotted out-
So, yeah. It's possible a rope was in there--but, knotted like a noose? See my above post.

(51,094 posts)They don't want to deal with having to take decisive action.
Ain't no way the entire NASCAR membership reacted the way they did for a rope that's been there for years.

It is the most respected team in NASCAR, so no one is questioning their integrity for a minute.
The reason no one reported it earlier was that a) no one even thought of it being a noose, and b) NASCAR never showed a picture of it after it was "found"
Those garages have been there awhile, so someone probably tied a loop on it years ago.

Yet in the hours after federal investigators ruled Tuesday that the noose had been in the garage stall for nine months, NASCARs only Black driver has been left alone to answer questions about an incident that doesnt directly involve him. NASCAR has remained silent.
President Steve Phelps the man who informed Wallace of the nooses existence issued an approximately five-minute statement on Tuesday afternoon after the FBI and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama announced no hate crime charges would be filed because the noose had been in the garage since at least October and was not targeted at Wallace. But Phelps took no questions and NASCAR only promised that hed speak again and answer inquiries about NASCARs ongoing investigation at an unspecified later date.
That later date is already too late.

(31,261 posts)The best way to use such a rope is to tie a loop at the end that a person uses. An alternative is to make a couple big knots, but that takes longer than a loop and is less predicable.
