If Donald Trump says he's the law and order candidate, it's just so easy for voters to say, "Uh... Aren't you the guy in charge?"

This is why Trump's playing the "law and order" card as an incumbent is completely different from Nixon in '68, running as a challenger. Different scenarios altogether.

It just works against him when this is factored into the ever declining conditions of America.

One great example: 1992. The Rodney King Riots didn't elevate Bush over Clinton, despite Clinton actually sympathizing with the rioters (and Bush taking a tough, 'we gotta end this lawlessness' approach.

The incumbent is expected to be in charge. Clearly Trump has no earthly idea on how to lead.
