(2,690 posts)I have to admit that, despising Trump because of his overpowering ego and lack of a heart of compassion, I still thought that "the best of his Ability" would be something he'd strive for. I did not for a second think his ability was sufficient for the job or good for the country, but I thought he had a notion of where he wanted to take the country and would work hard, disastrously so, to get us there. Turns out I was wrong. The man has hardly lifted a finger to forward anything resembling a vision of the future. He has, rather, sought to increase his wealth at the expense of the power, the authority, and the independence of this once world dominating country. He's worked, where he's worked at all, to create chaos and to weaken the fabric of the government laid out in the constitution. There is not a drop of patriotic blood in this man.
November 3 is make or break day for the Republic. Vote Trump into oblivion, vote all of his subordinate politicians into oblivion and, with them, the entire Republican Party. Let what vestiges of the GOP re-emerge as a New Republican Party, one with which I can viscerally disagree on issues but which I will not despise as a corporate-fascist threat to my country and my family's way of life.

(2,690 posts)to have a republic again.
I've written elsewhere of my sincere wish to see all of the Trumpians -- including Trump, himself dealt with appropriately, even biblically, Old Testament style.
But if America cannot at the very least rid itself of Trump and the vermin Trump has unloosed on it body, America will be dead on November 4.

(302 posts)So why do we have an oath? Seems to me that when 100% of the people who lie about them, absolutely nothing happens. Nothing. Nada. Is this a throwback to another era?

(16,925 posts)As long as Moscow Mitch McTurtle and his band of bandits refuse to do the job for which THEY ALSO TOOK AN OATH, we all may as well use the Constitution and the paper it is written on as "back-up" for another toilet paper shortage as COVID - Round 2 strikes.

We have a grifter as POTUS - a snake oil salesmen.
Enough Americans bought the bullshit to put us in this position.
Shame on the USA. We will never live this down, even if we survive it.
Whether you supported him or not, and most here definitely did not, we all wear the shame.
The rest of the world does not give a shit if a specific American does not support the orange buffoon. They are horrified that such a thing could even happen. We will be ostracized for decades. After that, we will no longer be relevant as a country.
Incredible damage has already been done and much of it can never be fixed.
