(18,486 posts)aren't concerned about semantics. Just like the people who claim they don't understand what it means, fully understand what it means.
They just don't care, but don't have the courage to say that so they claim the words are the stumbling block for them.

(58,785 posts)Goodhearted people, mostly focused as usual on their own lives, also now understand the need that finally drove the single most persecuted minority in our nation to cry out and try to make everyone hear: "Black lives MATTER!"
Thoughtful people also realize that, although the desperate call for help initially focused on black lives, the achievements of this movement inevitably advance equality for all Americans.
As for the others, they actually lost their bitter war before they got going and have had to live whole lifetimes of loss after loss, including many in this century. No one should ever have expected them to be good losers.

(131,241 posts)The statement some people revert to, "All lives matter," goes without saying, and nobody is claiming otherwise, but the point is that black lives have so often been treated as if they didn't matter as much as others, or even that they didn't matter at all. So there's no reason to add to it or explain it. If you don't get what it means, or if you have to harrumph about how "all lives matter," you don't get any of it.

(1,206 posts)There was a rather contentious thread yesterday about whether there should be a 'too' at the end of Black Lives Matter, and the consensus seemed to be 'No'.
Al is saying that what's implied is 'Black Lives Matter...As Much' - It's about equality, not exclusivity and I couldn't agree more.
Black Lives Matter As Much.
