After speaking with election officials in both Westchester and Bronx counties, there are not enough outstanding absentee ballots for Eliot Engel to make up the deficit to Jamaal Bowman.

according to the news a record number of absentee ballots were requested.
Edited to add...just rec'd my absentee this morning, though my vote would not have affected these races. My rep. Nadler won hands down.

(71,519 posts)Let me know when they start winning in other areas than New York...now that would be exciting and welcome news. Trading blue seats...don't care. Congrats to all Democratic winners though of course.
and am thrilled with the Torres win. Diaz would've been a nightmare

(17,201 posts)along with non-chalance re: the primary -- including a couple of self-centered/over-confident missteps -- has bitten another stalwart.
Kind of surprising. Engel has a pretty darned good record on the major issues overall.

(35,454 posts)Lots of us didn't receive our absentee ballots in time to even vote. Of the two requested one arrived in time, mine arrived this morning and so cannot be postmarked yesterday. There was an item on the news about lots and lots of people not receiving ballots in time and I wonder if it would change winners/losers

(98,883 posts)We are talking about a Democratic state and district, which make this administration of the voting quite disturbing

I absolutely refuse to mail in a ballot if I can be there in person. Even in a blue state. Ive had several friends find out their vote was invalidated here in illinois.

(11,902 posts)I have no doubt that Engel has been a solid dem but he has been there decades and in some of these districts with these Dems its constituents are asking for more than the status quo and looking for new voices to address institutional racism and issues like healthcare and work conditions like pay, leave, vacation and work hours.

(58,885 posts)wasn't a Democrat 2 years ago.
Engel was asking for a spot on a crowded speaking platform and was saying he wouldn't ask for the favor if he didn't have a primary.
We've lost a powerful committee chair, and one of the first people to call for Trump's impeachment.
