Complications from COVID-19 claimed the life Tuesday of a 17-year-old Fort Myers high student, one of the youngest victims of the pandemic in Florida, according to news and social media accounts.

Carsyn Davis was admitted Friday to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, according to a GoFundMe page organized by friends. Two days later, on her 17th birthday, she was admitted to the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

She was airlifted Monday to a hospital across the state for respiratory care and died Tuesday, according to the GoFundMe age.

On Saturday, the state Department of Health confirmed the death from coronavirus of a 17-year-old boy in Pasco County. He was the only minor and the youngest victim at the time of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus. The boy has not been publicly identified.

“ The next day she was airlifted to a hospital across the state to be put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, a machine similar to the heart-lung by-pass machine used in open-heart surgery, for cardiac and respiratory support, according to a GoFundMe set up to help support her family.”

I'm sorry she didn't make it. ECMO saved my now 23 year old son's life when he was a newborn.

People really need to get their heads out of their rear ends and wear a mask. That alone would make such a difference.

First, a 17-year-old boy dies Saturday, and then a 17-year-old girl dies Tuesday?

Especially for young people these two deceased kids age.

" ... many of the newly infected are younger individuals who are less at risk of becoming severely ill."

He was quoted as saying this yesterday. The same day Carsyn Davis died. No doubt she was in isolation and her parents couldn't be with her when she took her last breath.

Republican politicians are the enemy of the people.

Think they don't? This is a tragedy that could have easily been avoided had Florida elected a competent governor instead of this fucking imbecile Ron DeSantis, who does not care and is actually trying to make things worse. Vote like your life depends on it people, because one day it literally might.

I do not post often here but read the posts daily and needed to respond to this. My daughter went to school with Carsyn and was so distraught by this news. They shared a choir class together. Not sure why she was airlifted to the east coast. I was suprised however by how many adults I talked to who said that they thought only old people die from this virus. I guess you should never underestimate the amount of ignorance in this country. BTW the family needs help financially so any contributions to their go fund me page would help. Too many people suffering from this virus and our broken health care system.

All deaths from Covid result from complications of the virus. Once the lungs are filled with the mortar-like substance this virus has been compared to, every major organ is working at full capacity to sustain life. That takes a toll on the heart and kidneys, especially. Seeings all our organs are connected, if one major one goes down, the rest are taxed and can be overloaded.

No one ever died of AIDS itself, they died because Aids compromised their immune systems leaving them vulnerable to other infections or diseases. I think the same will be said about the Coronavirus.

Sad for such a young life to be taken....fly high, Carsyn!
