Humans try to take back Thai city from monkeys

https://news.yahoo.com/macaque-attack-humans-try-back-thai-city-monkeys-024558179.html

Residents barricaded indoors, rival gang fights and no-go zones for humans. Welcome to Lopburi, an ancient Thai city overrun by monkeys super-charged on junk food, whose population is growing out of control.

Pointing to the overhead netting covering her terrace, Kuljira Taechawattanawanna bemoans the monkey menace across the heart of the 13th-century city in the central province of the same name.

"We live in a cage but the monkeys live outside," she tells AFP.

"Their excrement is everywhere, the smell is unbearable especially when it rains."

On a what She hopes would be a Pleasant Valley Sunday, she looks out her terrace window thinking of Going Down to Listen to the Band. Then she thinks What am I Doing Hanging 'Round? I'm Gonna Buy Me a Dog, Look Out for The Monkeys as I hop on the Last Train to Clarksville. I know I'm a Believer, but I Just Want to Be Free!!

I have visited Thailand several times. I have spent time in Kanchanaburi, Chonburi and Ayutthaya, but most of my time was spent in Bangkok and Pattaya. I have never heard of Lopburi, but after watching this video, if I ever visit Thailand again, I will make it a point to spend two or three days in Lopburi. It looks and sounds adorable. I love Thailand, their culture, their Buddhism, their people, their history, it is a wonderful place and I have nothing but admiration and respect for them. This gives me another reason to visit again some day. If there ever comes a time again when I will be willing to get inside a hollow metal tube seven miles above the earth going 550 mph for hours and hours with dozens of other people inhaling and exhaling the same air.
