"Country singers Kane Brown and Brad Paisley and Christian music stalwart Michael W. Smith are among 21 Nashville stars who've signed on to a nationwide campaign to promote the First Amendment.

Hundreds of newspapers and other media outlets — including the Tennessean — will run ads of celebrities lauding First Amendment freedoms. The campaign, from the Free Speech Center at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, launches Independence Day July 4.

Freedoms of speech, press and assembly have been launched to the forefront by recent protests for racial equality after George Floyd died May 25 in Minneapolis when Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for almost nine minutes, Paulson said. Only 10% of Americans know that assembly is part of the First Amendment. That has changed in the the last three weeks," he said. "The First Amendment has never been more contemporary or valuable "

In addition to Brown, Paisley, Smith, Hamilton and Patchett, ads will feature: Singers/songwriters Loretta Lynn, Darius Rucker, Jason Isbell, Rosanne Cash, Ruby Amanfu, Billy Ray Cyrus, Colton Dixon, Mary Gauthier, John Cooper from Christian band Skillet, Marcus Hummon, Kathy Mattea, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, and Aubrie Sellers.".
