By Amanda M. Usher amanda.usher@gaflnews.com Jun 22, 2020

ALDOSTA – A 46-year-old Black man has sued the city police department claiming excessive force in a Feb. 8 incident where he was mistaken for a suspect in a panhandling investigation. His attorney is calling the incident a civil rights violation.

The city said Monday it is reviewing the incident and has posted body camera video along with a statement on social media.

Laws, policies and practices are catching up to the technology. You may be surprised to learn that most police body and dash camera video is not accessible by mere officers. In order to combat tampering with and deleting videos by the rank and file, the technology has progressed to be nearly completely automated.

There are many events that automatically trigger a cop’s cameras to start rolling in addition to the manual activation. These systems now can record for a set duration prior to the activation (in essence they’re always recording but overwrite the video when not given the command to record). When the cop pulls up to the station, all the video is wirelessly transmitted to a secure server that only the police administrators can access.

These crooked cops can still tamper with the video of course but the technological advancements make it much more difficult and much more obvious when they do.

citizens have gathered together and DEMANDED police wear body cams, and that footage be made public. I've known a few nice cops as individuals, but as a collective, there is no such thing as a "few bad cops." The entire structure is broken by militarization and white supremacy.

If it had been the panhandler???

4+ cops and tackling and slamming him to the ground, breaking his wrist, for panhandling???

Yes, this man was completely innocent and had nothing to do with it but this behavior is an incredibly violent response to what is a misdemeanor, non-violent offence.

Don’t believe your lying eyes. He wasn’t body slammed. He was “rolled”

It almost sounds like fun.

“off-balance and rolled him to the ground to gain control of him in anticipation of a warrant arrest.”

Plus the victim, err I mean suspect, was in a “bladed” stance. Can’t have a black man in a “bladed” stance can we? I use “bladed stance” all the time when describing friends: “hey that’s my buddy over there in the bladed stance“

So get it out of your mind that “bladed” is just some bullshit word used on a police report to justify extreme physical violence. I’m sure there was some fist clenching and furtive gestures we just couldn’t see them.

So fucking sick of this shit.

But, I also have a problem with the article using the term "hand irons". Is that the term the police used or is it a local term for handcuffs?

I have heard the "leg irons" used but only is old prison movies and stories. The connotation for me is of the slave ships.
