Trump has wanted to stage fireworks at the national memorial in South Dakotas Black Hills since 2018, according to two individuals familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. But the idea was scuttled or delayed by a number of his advisers, these individuals said.
The National Park Service stopped staging pyrotechnics at Mount Rushmore in 2010 out of concern that it could ignite wildfires under drought conditions. The memorial is surrounded by 1,200 acres of forested lands, including ponderosa pines, and lies next to the Black Hills National Forests Black Elk Wilderness.
Ian Fury, a spokesman for South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem (R), said in an email that the National Park Service had concluded the event will not harm the environment and conducted a controlled burn earlier this month to reduce brush that could fuel a wildfire.

Is there anyone with the guts to stand up to this monster and say "no"? Why does it seem that everyone is ready to just roll over and let Trump have his way?
If he isn't voted out of office in November, we won't even know this country 4 years from now.

(6,787 posts)this translates into votes. His moronic base is shrinking; what is he accomplishing. The man is a walking hazard on so many levels. I agree that the thing that puzzles me also is how many people roll over for him. Is it fear of job loss, fear of ????

(16,402 posts)If he's going to have his event at Mt. Rushmore no matter what, perhaps his advisors at least can talk him out of dangerous fireworks and into an equally spectacular laser light show.
Personally, I'd like to see all fireworks banned because of their fire risk, risk of injury to workers, and pollution, and replaced with light shows.
