My BLM song, Fight For Black Lives

I'm a long time DU'er who was a professional musician - pre-pandemic. I've been too afraid of getting sick to go out to the protests, but my heart breaks when I see police attacking innocent people, so I wrote this song:

. Soundcloud.

Here are the lyrics:

Until we all are free, I can’t feel free
Is this the world crying or the tears in me?

A voice inside told me, “Go and break the chains”
Is this the world whispering, or am I insane?

They got shot down
‘Cause they were male and brown
The crime was being alive
And that’s why we come here to fight for black lives

Serve and protect
Means a knee on your neck
Gasping for air to survive
And that’s why we come here to fight for black lives

So what kind of future will our children see?
Is this the world screaming or the rage in me?

As millions of voices in the streets convene
Is this the world changing or a wistful dream?

They got shot down
‘Cause they were male and brown
The crime was being alive
And that’s why we come here to fight for black lives

Serve and protect
Means a knee on your neck
Gasping for air to survive
And that’s why we come here to fight for black lives

*****
I would love to get this song redone with video of peaceful protests instead of my middle aged face!
