I'm okay with Trump's filing a brief with the Supreme Court to strike down the ACA...

Why?

1) This won't be heard until their next term, which means it's likely not going to have a decision before election day.

2) There's no way this court strikes down the ACA. Okay, I shouldn't say no way - but it's very unlikely.

3) The Trump campaign just gave Team Biden a devastating ad to run over and over again: the President wants to repeal the ACA during a pandemic.

What won 2018 for the Democrats?

Healthcare.

Well, the threat of the Republicans repealing healthcare.

If Trump hadn't locked up his election defeat with his disastrous pandemic response, he just did tonight.

It usually hears arguments through April, though it heard some in May this year because of the COVID closure; it heard cases that had originally been scheduled for March and April.

It agreed in March to hear the ACA case in the next term, which starts in October.

but it doesn't make it emotionally easier for those of us whose lives (or whose children's lives) depend on the ACA.

We have been under attack over and over again since the day this passed. You are wrong, as to #2. There are no guarantees, and it has been picked nearly to death - and the central argument here is that it's nearly dead and can't survive without the parts that have been killed off.

So no, it's not OK that - with everything else going on in the world, that yet another attempt to kill my daughter has been launched.

I know HC is a good issue for Dems. But I'm not flippant or carefree about the ACA. Every time it has to try to survive another challenge I'm scared sh*tless. Do I think it'll be struck down? No. Do I want to take a 1% (whatever) chance that it's struck down just b/c the odds are on my side? No.

There are a lot of people benefiting from the law. I worry about them. Selfishly, I worry about me too. I finally have coverage (steady coverage since 2014). It's terrifying to think of going back to the pre-ACA years of not having any coverage/ER visits.

We need to repeat it because I know several in that age bracket who were hurt by the ACA. Companies used that threat to cut benefits. Others lost their jobs, can not afford the high cost of Insurance. That badly needs to be fixed. It made many vote for Trump with his perfect health care boast. Now, they expect Democrats to fix it.

I'll bet they submit a Trumpcare plan to Congress this summer and pump it up on media like it's the best thing since original sin.

Even though that could never even get through the House, he can say in the final weeks of his campaign he tried to rebuild healthcare but nasty Democrats wouldn't go along. He could also say his attempt to strike down ACA is part of that grand plan.

Any thoughts from wiser heads?........

That’s not possible. He’s not a King, we have a Congress that he would have to get through first.

And remember that Obama had Democrats controlling both the House (Pelosi) and the Senate (Reid) and he STILL had trouble getting it passed. (Trying to remember...a Senator from Nebraska, another from Louisiana, a Congressman from Michigan, more...?)

Far better and easier if the ACA is upheld by the court. More important is who will be Biden’s Solicitor General who will defend the Act before the Court, and that person needs to start getting ready damn soon.
