Florida has now spent two weeks under phase two of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ reopening plan and newly reported cases of COVID-19 continue to create concern as they accelerate beyond numbers seen when the pandemic first began.

Across the state, new cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported by the thousands daily, with infection numbers surpassing those seen when the pandemic first caused the state to shut down.

On Friday, the Florida Department of Health reported 8,942 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 39 new deaths and 212 additional hospitalizations. The state reported a 13.5% positivity rate for new tests conducted.

The number of newly reported cases shattered the record for the most cases of COVID-19 reported in a single day. The previous record was set on Wednesday when the state reported 5,511 cases.

Walt Disney World employees petition to delay reopening as coronavirus cases surge in Florida

As the number of coronavirus cases surges in Florida, more than 7,000 people have signed an online petition urging Disney and government officials to reconsider the opening of Disney World next month.
“This virus is not gone, unfortunately it’s only become worse in this state,” the petition, which was posted on MoveOn.org on Sunday, states. “Having our theme parks remain closed until cases are steadily decreasing would keep our guests, our employees and their families safe. Re-opening the theme parks is only putting our guests, employees, and families at higher risk for contracting COVID-19.”

I wish we had some polling on these Republican Governors because I think even in the South they are starting to feel the heat

Yes Dallas is a Democratic city but this station probably reaches 6-7 Million people-the majority of which are Republican

Interesting that the next day-this morning-Abbott has decided to close down the Bars again and reduce restaurant seating capacity to 50%

I know he announce "pausing" the rollout, but that will do nothing to stop the spread.

Even Gov Abbott backtrack and is closing bars and other stuff.

Their deaths will simply be filed under "normal old people deaths" rather than COVID related.

It's their time to die anyways - said republicans /smh

That’s almost double from 2 days ago. Will de Santis EVER decide to take it seriously? Or will Florida just wind up being returned to the gators, panthers, and manatees?
