Top 5 Takeaways from Bill Barr’s Heated NPR Interview: ‘I Mean, Even the President Can’t Change Facts’

In a wide-ranging interview with NPR on Thursday, Attorney General Bill Barr assumed responsibility for actions taken in the Roger Stone and Michael Flynn cases and the firing of Geoffrey Berman in the Southern District of New York. He also waved away the so-called whistleblower testimony of former Mueller prosecutor Aaron Zelinsky as “double hearsay.” The back-and-forth was at times a little snippy (listen to it for yourself here). ....

1. Barr takes ownership of the Stone, Flynn, and Berman controversies. ....

2. Barr dismissed Zelinsky’s Wednesday testimony as “double hearsay,” calling much of what he said “simply false.” ....

3. Barr, when asked about his view on the unitary executive theory, says: What about governors? ....

4. Barr says Durham isn’t investigating Barack Obama or Joe Biden, dismisses idea that Trump will in any way determine the outcome of the probe. ....

5. Barr, after pointing out the importance of legitimate predicates, was asked about widespread mail-in ballot fraud. He asserted that it was possible. Asked for evidence, he offered none and said it’s “obvious” because the ballots are “primitive.” ....

Bonus: Barr says many of the people currently under investigation by DOJ for rioting and destruction “do identify as Antifa.” ....

hearsay. “John told me that Bill said that Barr is trying to take over the US Attorney’s office for the SDNY.”

What John said is hearsay. So is what Bill said. They are out of court statements used to prove the truth of the matter asserted. Hearsay within hearsay, or double hearsay.

I’m not saying I agree with Barr, but he’s not making up the rule.

Never heard that one before. Secondary source is the term I would have used but I not Bully Barr so there's that.

I hope he can be charged with lying to Congress and put in jail. John Mitchell went to jail, and Barr is way worse.

But since hearsay is unreliable--the reason for the rule of evidence--basing Congressional formulation of policy on something that's unreliable seems in a sense worse than merely screwing up an individual's life because of confirmation bias.

They don't apply as rules. They should apply as simple common sense.

I've been dicked over by "well, the rules of evidence don't apply" sorts of logic, people hearing what somebody said somebody said, only to have the pile o' steamin' crap land on me. With "But I didn't say that" taken as confirmation, because otherwise why would I lie? (Yeah, that's the "logic".)

Am I wrong? Has Antifa done evil things of which I should be more aware? If so, please someone enlighten me.

I want that to be that motherfucker's epitaph. "It's possible" doesn't constitute a real argument, as the old joke goes:

Husband and wife go for a little vacation at a cabin by a lake. The first morning, husband is dog-tired from driving the day before. Wife gets up and decides that maybe a little reading might be in order. She pushes the little fishing boat out into the water and floats out to the middle of the lake. She's reading quietly when the game warden motors up. Greeting her, the warden asks to see her fishing license. The woman says she doesn't have one, but she's reading, not fishing. The warden says, "That may be, but you're out on the lake, you've got some fishing gear there in the boat. You've got the equipment and the proximity so you might be fishing. License, please." The woman responds that she will call rape on the warden. "After all, you've got the equipment and the proximity, so you might be a rapist." The warden mulls it over and says, "You have a nice day, Ma'am."
