That's all it is now, a memory. Dow off 730 today. Who could have known that having an erratic, incoherent numbskull incompetently running the country during a pandemic with 42 million unemployed would have a negative effect on the markets?

8. I'm guessing a lot of this is due to algorithmic trading (AI) with a dose of human incompetence

thrown in.

While we think AI and machine-learning can be much faster and much better than humans, they only "understand" the models that they were trained on. With the craziness in the markets, in politics, in items like SA and USSR whims, it becomes chaotic.

And then you have the actual owners of these algorithms - a bunch of high-tech nerds - who are tweaking some obscure parameters. One little tweak wrong and a bit whoopsie.

Small investors, day traders. Beware. You will be made into hamburger if you try to do active trades. You may lose your portfolio if you do nothing.
