I figured it was something like that. It seems like a lot of people these days see everything through a Trump lens.

Like if it's bad or embarrassing for Trump then it's good. Well this isn't good.

I understand why they're doing it and it makes sense. But it's not good. Or funny.

Open the EU border itself to other countries that are sufficiently safe. For at least the last month or two, there have been regular articles that questioned if the US travelers would be allowed to come in given how important the US is. Today gave the answer. We do meet the criteria and we will not be allowed in.

and a change in seasons is healthful, both mentally and physically.

I would take the southern Canada climate any day over hot and humid or bake and dry (We once spent six weeks in Houston in July and hardly ever went outside and then only for short periods; it was like a sauna, even at night).

Hurricanes and tornadoes are also nice to avoid. And, if you don't like rats, alligators or poisonous insects, come to Alberta!

A year after global opinion of the United States dropped precipitously, favorable views of the U.S. remain at historic lows in many countries polled. In addition, more say bilateral relations with the U.S. have worsened, rather than improved, over the past year. Among possible sources of resentment is the widespread perception that the U.S. does not consider the interests of other countries when making foreign policy decisions. More generally, relatively few see the U.S. stepping up more to solve international problems ...

THE WORLD’S TRUST IN the United States, a country entering an election year with its impeached president facing trial in the Senate and stirring global alarm over the U.S. killing of an Iranian general, has dropped by more than 50% since 2016, the sharpest drop of any country assessed in the 2020 Best Countries report.

Additionally, the United Kingdom has experienced the second-greatest drop in the world’s trust since 2016, according to Best Countries data. Last December’s elections firmly entrenched Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his vow to push forward with Brexit and take the country out of the European Union.

By contrast, America’s neighbor to the north, Canada, is seen as the world’s most trustworthy country, according to the report, a position the nation has held since the annual global survey first released in 2016 ...

The bad news for those concerned with America’s standing in the world is that Donald Trump is president. The good news is that the US still enjoys a generally favourable reputation despite having slipped sharply since Barack Obama left office.

Those were the findings of the Pew Research Centre’s latest survey of 33 nations, an annual litmus test of how the US is viewed beyond its shores.

“The overall confidence in the US president is particularly low across the world in countries we surveyed,” said Jacob Poushter, associate director of global attitudes research at Pew, a non-partisan social research firm. “Generally, support for the US has held up, but not necessarily for its president.” ...

Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, which he once dismissed as a hoax, has been fiercely criticised at home as woefully inadequate to the point of irresponsibility.

Yet also thanks largely to Trump, a parallel disaster is unfolding across the world: the ruination of America’s reputation as a safe, trustworthy, competent international leader and partner.

Call it the Trump double-whammy. Diplomatically speaking, the US is on life support.

“The Trump administration’s self-centred, haphazard, and tone-deaf response [to Covid-19] will end up costing Americans trillions of dollars and thousands of otherwise preventable deaths,” wrote Stephen Walt, professor of international relations at Harvard ...

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked by a reporter yesterday to comment on Donald Trump's threat to use military force against American protesters. Trudeau, who's taken great care to avoid direct public criticisms of his U.S. counterpart, paused and stood silently for 21 seconds.

"We all watch in horror and consternation at what is going on in the United States," the prime minister eventually said, after lengthy consideration ...

The New York Times reported in April that many are looking at "the richest and most powerful nation in the world with disbelief" as the United States struggled with the coronavirus crisis. The report added that the pandemic is "perhaps the first global crisis in more than a century where no one is even looking for Washington to lead."

When Trump broached the subject of disinfectant injections, he became an immediate global punch-line to a disheartening joke ...

Initially, they were to be there for June 1. They've now received their fourth extension due to border closures out to July 7.

This now involves change of fights for four, change of cargo transport of their pup, recertification of pup's health certificate, camping out in a nearly empty house since their furniture is already on the way, altering their auto turn-in dates, and running out of time against their house closing on July 8, requiring temporary housing if extended again. Thank heavens they have a pool, because keeping a 10 and a 14 year old entertained isn't easy in an empty house in SC where COVID numbers are rising.
My son is blessed to have a wife with the best attitude and personality in the world!
