UPDATE on my Doggie dental "emergency"

original thread: https://www.democraticunderground.com/116149122

The vet squeezed us in after his last visit yesterday eve, also waived the thing where they don't usually let people in due to Covid...I wore a mask and so did he. Examined her from nose to tail and had a good conversation with me about all her issues. Even while he was poking her she never tried to bite and wagged that fluffy tail the whole time

The growth inside her mouth, he thinks is more likely benign because it doesn't seem to be as enmeshed in her tissues, but again he will know more when he gets in there. he says it's about 50-50

we also discussed trying to get a better timeline on her age...I've had her for 8 years and she was between 2-5 when we got her...we think she's on the younger side, like 10 maybe. which is good because that reduces the risk of her having complications with anesthesia. Also, once she gets that mouth cleaned up it will improve her overall health so much we think she could add 5 happy years to her life!

She's on antibiotics until we can get her scheduled for surgery. he's ball park that it will be about $2k My folks are going to try and pitch in since she's like another grandchild to them. But yea, we have a go fund me up cuz I don't qualify for the "care credit" thing... At least the 2 weeks while she's on antibiotics gives us some time to get the $$ together.

She's being a good girl and the CBD samples from the pet store are helping her seem less in pain. Heck, she even wanted to play today!

Thanks for all your advice, prayers, etc!!!

We just found out our 10 yr old rescue Mini Aussie has a severe heart problem and needs a pacemaker. The operation is only done by one Vet Hospital here and the cost is $9-10,000. The other choice is to take her to WSU Vet School in Pullman, WA where it might cost about $5-6,000. We don't have that kind of money so she is on 4 different medications, just to refill them cost over $300. She has good days and bad days. She is such a sweet girl and tries her best to be brave, but sometime I see the fear in her eyes when she is having a bad day.

We love them so much, but we can only do the best we can with what we have. My best to you and puppy and hope it all turns out good.

Yes, our furbabies are really just so important

I've had cats my whole life and while I still grieve when they pass, the relationship with a dog is SOOOO much more intimate and bonded. Wafflez is like my lilttle shadow, always at my heel and just a joyful ball of happy fluff. She makes me laugh, she KNOWS when I am talking to grandpa about her and she also KNOWS when I am going somewhere I don't even have to say anything, we just share a look and she jumps up to come too

We just had a cat my daughter acquired neutered. We pull up, they come out and get the carrier and a phone number. If it's a check-up they call and chat while the staff bring the animal back out. If it's surgery you go home and come back, call them, and they bring the animal out.

The two cats we had two sets of cats ago were each $1,000+ cats. (One needed a laryngeal tie-back - an operation normally only done on dogs (specifically boxers). Her littermate swallowed a bobin full of thread that wrapped around her tongue so she couldn't pass it.) Both were young-ish and had years of good life after we bit the bullet to pay for their surgeries.

Hope everything goes well for your pup.
