Question on weather

A question here in Pennsylvania these last several years. It seems to me that winters have become less severe. Then of late summer storms come building and thunder and lightning and strong winds now are really violent. And they just seem more intense summer storms. Than what we used to have. Has anyone else noticed this I’m 54 just seems different today the weather in intensity.

Yes. Weather records show warmer winters. Storm cycles are a little more variable. TreasonousBastard Jun 2020 #7

but our weather has been milder the last couple of years, hotter, but fewer tornado and hail spawning thunderstorms. I read somewhere that they think the storms like these have shifted east and south of this area for some climate change related reasons. Hopefully we all get less dangerous storms down the road but you do sort of get used to them...(not the injuries and damage of course).

30s. But it’s been near 70 in recent years.

When I was little, long ago, it would dip below 0 a few times a year. I remember because the snot would freeze in my nose at bus stop. We barely see 20s nowadays.

Is that true? Your snot would freeze in your nose? I've never heard of such a thing but I find it funny!

Somehow I don't doubt that! I would be afraid to ask you about any other childhood memories.

I'll never see your username again without imagining a nose full of frozen snot.

Very mild. Almost not much of a winter at all, which is unusual for this area. I don't know what summer will bring, but we are due for thunder and lightening storms for the next five days. I kind of like storms, but I had planned to finally venture out this weekend (with my mask) to do a few errands, however I may have to postpone due to weather.

I do find it very cozy to be inside when there is a big storm outside. I don't know why, but I find it very soothing and comforting.

The larger weather patterns that affect your area.

I have no argument with the findings of climate scientists that the global temperature is rising. Don't know a whole lot about the patterns in North America, but am on top of the global weather events that affect this corner of SE Australia.

El Nino/La Nina obviously affect us, but so do the Indian Ocean Dipole and the Southern Annular Mode, which I only found out about this past year or so. These are very large systems that can affect the weather for a couple of years or more.

But I think your observations are probably correct over the long term, partly due to climate change and partly because of the effect of climate change on the global weather patterns.

We've had record low temperatures all over the area. And summers seem to me to have gotten hotter, too. When I was in school I had a summer job outdoors that I'm not sure I could endure now. And there was no Spring, it went from cold to hot, no middle ground. We've often had damaging winds, too.

Sometimes it seems like the Southern climate followed me.
I hope it's just an aberration.
