It is legal to have a gun.

(100,133 posts)...WANT us to feel, and by "us" I mean white and black and brown. The cops escalated on this poor guy because he "matched a description"? What -- a generic black guy in a generic car? Then when they let him go, and you civilians questioned them, they escalated all over again until you got frightened for your own safety and backed away.
Yeah, I think his civil rights were violated. Yours too.

(9,295 posts)You read it carefully and understood what happened. The 12:1 with assault rifles! I don't think Bonnie and Clyde were taken down by that many and they had fully automatic machine guns.

(9,899 posts)many many years of not being held accountable BECAUSE THE LAW SAYS YOU'RE ABOVE THE LAW. There should never be even one individual in this country that is above the law. Especially not a bunch of guys with guns and temper issues.

(905 posts)Funny how every time enablers of criminal cops step up to the mic to bleat out their disingenuous "bad apple" excuses, they fail to finish the analogy: Bad apples spoil the bunch.
Funny too that, having recognized bad apples exist, police chiefs seem utterly incapable of sticking their hands in the barrel, plucking them out, and throwing them in the trash where they belong.

They work themselves up...in this situation, twice. As a society we have a big problem on our hands and the sooner we divest ourselves of these hypermilitarized psychotics the better. I was pleased to see that Newark did or is preparing to do so.
Thank Dog you expressed your support to him. I am sure it meant a great deal.
I would go tell this story to the town council.

(43,118 posts)I may do some research on it and post it later.
Also, I wanted to add that I have a criminal justice professor friend. She said the quality of incoming students has fallen quite a bit and that the ones who want to be police are not very smart.
In my mind, it adds up to wanting to be a police person for the wrong reasons, such as power and control.

(18,527 posts)Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga), a champion of the Second Amendment and co-sponsor of bills expanding the rights of citizens to both conceal and open carry firearms, said during an interview with Fox News that black Americans in Atlanta openly carrying guns while protesting the death of Rayshard Brooks were an example of "mob rule." Cops seem to share the same view.

(9,483 posts)if he had not been shot to death for carrying a lawfully licensed weapon. I still haven't heard anything from the NRA taking up for his violated rights.
The 2nd Amendment is only for white people but the US is not racist to the core - and you'll never hear the NRA speak out on ths reality

(13,688 posts)the police report on this incident.
mysteryowl
(9,295 posts)I will be talking with my mayor and councilmember today. We can get the report for sure and bodycam footage if need be.
Ironically, last week was our first city meeting on police reform!

(14,781 posts)These days, when the word gun is mentioned in a trouble call, they go into a military response mode that's been drilled into their brains via some new right-wing training systems and it's especially bad post-9/11. They need to be de-programmed or replaced.
I hope you can share that story both to your local press and with your city council to insure it goes on record and also hope those recording it on their phones saved the videos.

(3,334 posts)with a weapon terrorizing our white family. He seems to be talking to himself. Give a good description. See how many times the cops show up. If they don't, keep having people call 911 on him.

(151,210 posts)means that every black man looks like the suspect to the cops. That's the problem in a nutshell. They don't recognize people of color as individuals at all. So, they stop the first black man they see and go into full cop mode.

8 cop cars.
Proof they are cowards and we need less, not more cops.

(6,890 posts)Can happen to anyone. Has happened to my sis who is white. But they sure didnt treat her this way and the person they had been looking for was an armed robber.
Of, course once they saw female driver I think the situation Deescalated. But they still pulled her out of her vehicle to make sure that the robber was not in there.
She said it was extremely traumatic because it was all at once and the cops shout their orders and may or may not wait for compliance.
This young man was very brave to be so calm in the face of so many guns. My heart goes out to him.
