in today's political world.
On AM JOY, he shredded Trump over the murder of American soldiers paid for by Russian oligarchs. And he stated that the Trump administration will leave a stench that will not be forgotten. (I'm paraphrasing.)
If anyone knows how to post a link to Schmidt's commentary this morning, please do so. It's a must see.
A few weeks ago, I did a post called "Fuck Steve Schmidt." The point was that he spent decades using his brilliance to put Republicans in power. And that his efforts led, inevitably, to Donald Trump. I still believe that. But I feel he's redeemed himself to a degree with his rants (and those of the Lincoln Project) against Trump.
At this moment in time, Steve Schmidt is perhaps the absolute best spokesperson attacking Trump and the Republican Party. We need a few Dems who can speak as powerfully. But, in the meantime, thanks for Steve Schmidt.
On edit: Gothmog has posted the video on #25 below. Please, please watch it.

A quote for you:
The hour of reckoning for the Never Trump movement is now before us, said Steve Schmidt, the GOP strategist who ran McCains 2008 campaign. There are scores of these people who say theyll still support the GOP nominee. That has been an incongruent position for some time, but never more so than it is now.
Schmidt predicted that a substantial amount of Republican officials who have worked in Republican administrations, especially on issues of defense and national security, will endorse Hillary Clinton in the campaign.

(5,306 posts)But when America is faced with a crisis, as we are now, patriotic Americans put aside their political differences and unite against the common enemy. That enemy right now is Donald Trump. When we achieve our mutual goal of defeating the menace threat to our country, we will go back to debating our political differences.
They won't be our friends when this is all over, but they are right now.

(15,035 posts)He believes in the Constitution. And he also believes that Trump is a threat to the entire world.
The next time some Republican becomes prez, Schmidt may just decide to peddle their propaganda. One can only hope that he's learned where that leads. And given the incredible intelligence, and decency, he has demonstrated recently, hopefully he won't.
Steve Schmidt, if you're here, please listen. Today, you are on the side of reason and sanity. Whenever the next con artist is up for election, please stay on the side of democracy and sanity.

He's been a tremendous asset.
I do believe Mike Bloomberg can speak as powerfully (through ads and psyops). I am waiting, with a lot of others, to see what he is planning. He said he was prepared to do and spend whatever it takes. I always mention Bloomberg because he was actually the first person to "take off the gloves" with Trump. It's worth remembering that.

(15,035 posts)Lindbergh was a Nazi sympathizer right up until the day we went to war with Germany. And Wallace was a man who wanted the return of plantations, slavery and Scarlett O'Hara.
Fascists have always been a subset of hateful true believers in America. They're a minority of pricks, always have been and always will be. But Schmidt really tied two different flavors of fascism into a single package and put a bow on it. Not much difference between the Confederacy and the Nazis. Just different targets and tactics.

Not by any stretch. Good statement though.

(37,160 posts)That is a caveat of no small significance.
There are plenty of wordsmiths who can eloquently frame the discussion and go on the attack. And who won't pretend that the GOP's madness was something g that mysteriously appeared when Donnie came down the escalator.
Yet somehow we're treated to the same NeverTrumper faces crowding out people who were more perceptive than they were.

(89 posts)"Donald Trump has been the worst president this country has ever had. And I don't say that hyperbolically. He is. But he is a consequential president. And he has brought this country in three short years to a place of weakness that is simply unimaginable if you were pondering where we are today from the day where Barack Obama left office. And there were a lot of us on that day who were deeply skeptical and very worried about what a Trump presidency would be. But this is a moment of unparalleled national humiliation, of weakness.
"When you listen to the President, these are the musings of an imbecile. An idiot. And I don't use those words to name call. I use them because they are the precise words of the English language to describe his behavior. His comportment. His actions. We've never seen a level of incompetence, a level of ineptitude so staggering on a daily basis by anybody in the history of the country whose ever been charged with substantial responsibilities.
"It's just astonishing that this man is president of the United States. The man, the con man, from New York City. Many bankruptcies, failed businesses, a reality show, that branded him as something that he never was. A successful businessman. Well, he's the President of the United States now, and the man who said he would make the country great again. And he's brought death, suffering, and economic collapse on truly an epic scale. And let's be clear. This isn't happening in every country around the world. This place. Our place. Our home. Our country. The United States. We are the epicenter. We are the place where you're the most likely to die from this disease. We're the ones with the most shattered economy. And we are because of the fool that sits in the Oval Office behind the Resolute Desk."

(15,805 posts)He has always reminded me of university professor who has momentarily stepped out of his class of doctoral students to chat with the dean.
He is very much like a handful of respected professors that I admired in my college years and I sought out their courses whenever I could. His expressive and insightful monologues are almost like dramatic readings, made all the more noteworthy by his expansive vocabulary.

Be grateful that one of their great propagandists is attacking Trump rather than Biden.
There is one absolute necessity. Trump must be dragged from the White House. Anyone who helps us do that is presently a friend who may once again be our future opponent.
Be grateful that the imbecile in the White House is just making up word salad anytime he's in front of a mic. This dangerous, malicious moron has to go before he destroys us all. And Steve Schmidt is doing everything possible to destroy the horrible Trump beast.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Not a criticism. What people admire can be copied.
Hes been doing this for so long that I doubt he keeps a list of words in front of him every time, but unquestionably he has one and adds new words to it as the situation suggests.
And youll notice that he never starts by repeating some lie against us defensively. Hell no. He goes straight for the other guys throat.

(15,241 posts)I can't believe anyone that hopes for the resurrection of the (r)epuglicon party is honestly wanting the Democrats to win.
If Schmidt and other (r)s want to form a new party and totally cleanse it of the Rove/Abramov/Cheney/Grinch/McCarthy/Cohn/tea-party/evangelical/racist/anti-science/etc. types, then please do that. Please do not just change the wording of your platform to something like "Big Tent".

(58,785 posts)Republican party still representative, but they want the massively corrupt and extremist elements out of the power because theyre destroying all of us.
Like us, they underestimated just how ruthlessly corrupt and treasonous the leaders and despicably self destructive the followers would get. They thought there was a bottom.

(7,521 posts)Some people will continue to paint Schmidt as a Machiavellian type who is only saying things now in order to gain power in the future, which would make him just as bad as the trumpers. I think it is simple minded and easy to paint every human in binary terms of good and evil. People, including Democrats, like to think they are pure in their actions and beliefs but in reality no one is. A time such as this shows someone's true character and even though I disagree with him politically I think Schmidt has shown his basic decency and love for his country - in the most articulate way you will find.
