"SNIP.....
GOP operatives are for the first time raising the possibility that Donald Trump could drop out of the race if his poll numbers dont rebound, Fox Business reports.
One major player described Trumps current psyche as fragile.

(15,100 posts)He has to stay in the White House to "avoid prosecution from NY". That is his #1 motivator.

(50,271 posts)mask made me wonder if Trump is thinking of resigning. Why else would Pence wear a mask and risk upsetting Dear Leader? Maybe there's something to this new independent streak.

So many choices!!

(32,006 posts)If there was criminal activity they would have acted on it. The charity is a civil matter and has already been acted on. It is not criminal according to NY state. Stormy Daniels is not going anywhere criminally. #realworld.

(6,395 posts)If they have any tinge of being related to Federal crimes, its going to get muddy. And if he's pardoned on Federal...it makes it even harder on the state.
His lawyers will tie this shit up for so long, he'll probably croak before he appears in court.
I'm of the opinion, his sons and Jarvanka will take the full brunt...and I don't expect them to remain in the country.

(25,111 posts)We are in . . .
1. Pandemic, which he and his administration alongwith republicans have royally mismanaged;
2. Economy, which he and his administration alongwith republicans have royally screwed up;
3. Health care and unemployment, which he and his administration alongwith republicans have royally in the process of destroying;
4. USA troops with bounty on their heads, which he and his administration alongwith republicans have royally have done nothing;
5. and there is much more et al.,
But alas, polls numbers have spark the talk of shithole getting the boot

(34,857 posts)There were even betting odds set on whether he would drop out in 2016:
https://www.dailydot.com/debug/donald-trump-drop-out-of-race/
If Trump didn't drop out in 2016 - why would he in 2020? The fact is, despite Trump's polling so atrociously right now for an incumbent, his odds at this point, at least in betting odds, aren't that far off where they were in 2016 - an election he won.
Currently, Biden's odds are at 62% on Predict - Trump at 40. At this point, four years ago, Hillary's odds were at 69% chance to win the White House. Trump was at 33%. So, he's actually doing better than four years ago at this point.
I also do not believe Trump thought he was going to win in 2016. I think that was a shock for him. He played the same games then as he is now: setting up the idea the election would be stolen. Do people not remember the debate where they asked him if he would go on the record stating the results would be legitimate if he lost - and he couldn't do it?
I actually think Trump believes, because of 2016, that he has a good chance of winning this despite the polls. He can't fathom people don't like him.
So, for him to drop out, he'd have to concede he can't win and I don't think he is anywhere near conceding that. He could be down 30 points in the polls and would still believe his chances are good at reelection.

(9,670 posts)The man could walk on all fours, saliva dripping from his mouth, and the MAGAts will keep wearing their hats and keep imagining a Trump in their own image just like they do with Jesus, ready to stick it to the libturds and conservative traitors by putting a tally in Trump's column.
It's not about will there be enough of them. The question is whether there's enough of them to give cover to whatever election shenanigans they have in mind, but they definitely have it in mind, and we need to stop thinking so rationally and be ready to react quickly to the myriad outlandish ways the GOP and their co-partner, I mean co-conspirator, Russia, deign to wreak havoc in the months preceding the election, the day of, and the months in the aftermath.
Hold on tight.

(11,949 posts)Not that trump cares.
But if the polls continue as they are and Biden wins, which unlike many here do not think is assured by any means, his strategy will become legend.
Let your opponent destroy himself because you are confident the American people know what kind of man you are.

(578 posts)quit. We have heard this bs for 4 years now that he's going to quit his job because he doesn't like being president. The man is so god damn arrogant and delusional that it's not in his makeup to walk away and quit. His ego won't allow it. To get rid of him Biden is going to have to beat him. As democrats we have to accept the reality that the only way to get rid of Trump is to beat him in the election.

(15,212 posts)Even if he were to resign, with a deal that Pence would give him a full pardon, there's a bunch of stuff in New York state (and probably elsewhere) that no Pence pardon will save him from.
Covering his own ass might be the only reason left that Trump wants to stay in office.

(6,395 posts)Blame the media, Intelligence community who disliked him, Obama appointee's he couldn't get rid of, etc. for his loss and was "the greatest president ever".
But in between that time, siphon all the campaign funds they can under "consulting" and make deals all over the world for the Trump business.
And Pence will do the deed. He knows his political career is over. His buddies in Congress will tell him that the specter of prolonged hearings and investigations will haunt the GOP and hurt their cause. Best to rip the band aid off now rather than slowly peel it off. They'll do their best to make Trump a distant memory.
