Another name I have for it is 'Provo South' ... I have 3 LDS churches within a mile of my house. You get the idea.
Anyways, BIG change from the last time I was out at Safeway earlier in the week, about a block south of Lowe's. That time, there was almost nobody in masks. Today ... totally different story. Easily more people than not wearing them.
People are getting the memo about the exploding case count in this state, and many are taking it somewhat seriously it would appear.

(51,087 posts)Not that everyone would wear them.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)But that may have contributed to the change ... though I think that was enacted before I went to Safeway earlier in the week. That was late night and there weren't many people there, so maybe not a great 'sample'.

(11,009 posts)And I've seen a couple people turned away at stores for not having masks, and NOT throwing fits about it.

(13,582 posts)The only other place I go is the blood center to donate platelets and everyone has to wear a mask there. I plan to continue to lay low and see so few people that my sample will be too small to judge how we're doing on masks. There is a shitstorm on my FB feed over it though. A lot of people are not going to wear them unless forced to.

(34,661 posts)when we lived in Washington County,we had 7 within a one mile radius. 67 total in the three Community area. Oh btw, understand they have been counseled to wear facial covers as of last Sunday.

(33,643 posts)If the Mormons are being told to wear them as of last Sunday, that could explain what I saw.

(257 posts)The Safeway by me near downtown Phx area has signs up at the only entrance. I work food delivery and by yesterday or maybe even Friday every pickup I went to had up signs saying masks were required. All the gas stations I've came across have signs saying masks are required now too. It seemed to me that gas stations were slower to comply than food places.
If it wasn't for the mandate and the businesses enforcing the mandate by denying service I have to imagine that many would still not be wearing masks.

(3,334 posts)It was scary knowing if I got the Covid-19, I would die. No, Neither my husband nor I left the house after getting home, and no one was allowed in, from non-VA urgent care. Because of my blood-thinner and other meds, I now have to have an INR test every week. Luckily the VA Clinic has protocols in place and it is quite safe.

(11,949 posts)In my area depending when you went it was about 50/50. Yesterday at Publix is was closer to 80%.
But I spent 2 days on the west coast in Citrus County. Very red county. Well under 50% had masks.

Also the church came out and told Utah members to wear masks a couple days ago. Although Ive seen reports of LDS meetings being held in Mesa without masks (on the reddit r/exmormon).

(33,643 posts)Regardless of whether there were a lot of Mormons there today, most in general were wearing masks in this Red town, so that's good

(937 posts)I was really happy so many more people are wearing masks when I was going to the grocery store. Then I saw pictures of the thousands of people all tubing down The Salt River yesterday and today Im sure. I got bummed again. Will AZ ever get its 💩 together?

(2,177 posts)pretty narrow areas on the river that get clogged up and there is no way to socially distance when that happens.

(11,009 posts)If the river was that crowded, I can't imagine how bad Salt River Rec. was just to get to the river.

(22,114 posts)late for those who haven't worn masks yet/won't. If the CV is raging in these areas, and as infectious as the CV is, probably a good chunk of the people walking around w/o masks or protection are infected w/ the CV.

(11,009 posts)I'm not sick, but my allergies have been raging worse than usual for a while. I have all the symptoms (except the loss of taste and smell), but very, very mild. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate them about .5. So it's probably just allergies.
I can't get a test scheduled though as I can't find any appointments.

She is in San Antonio.
