Based on his impeachment vote, he is the only Republican who can separate himself from the Trump mis-Administration.

People make the mistake of thinking just because Trunp quits his stranglehold on the party ends. His supporters still would be the largest bloc in the party and they think Romney is a cuck.

Especially Bolton. He was not liked even when Trump first picked him, because he's an extreme hawk neo-con. Although the Republican party used to be very hawkish in the 2000's, times have changed a bit.

the power behind the Republican party wouldn't have a problem with anyone, as long as they carry water well. Trump has been a god-send. They'll hold on until all hell breaks loose...and then they'll still hold on.

If they want to keep the Trump base, then someone like Cotton. If they want to try to recover their soul, then maybe Romney or perhaps one of the governors who hasn't been complicit in what Trump has done. I think either Haley or Scott will appear on the ticket (with Haley possibly being at the top of a ticket).

underwear. He would never win. The man is vile. So is Trump, but he doesn't have Trump's particular brand of low-life, low-budget charisma. He's an iceberg.

I think Liz Chaney has been sending up signals too.

I don't know if Trump's racist base would accept Haley. Maybe as Pence's VP, but not at the top of the ticket.

They know the trajectory of this race, which is why they didn't offer up a serious primary candidate. The power players have cut their losses and ran already.

They are moving on to 2024. I'm positive on this one, and I'm seldom sure of much in politics.

Also, they know Trump isn't leaving and the ugly is going to get much, much worse before he's removed. This is the reason for The Lincoln Project and Republicans Against Trump. They're trying to salvage some ground to run on in 2024.

They've definitely not given up, except on Trump. Wait, watch and bookmark this post. I'm not wrong.

I suspect it's Nikki Haley

Pence is tied to Trump
Romney already had his shot

But there could be someone else

I expect some whatif polls before the Republican convention - probably in the next few weeks.

It is pretty damaging for Trump's campaign to be chatting about polls on who is going to run since he's doing so badly ..

He'll have some choice tweets on that before he feigns an illness and resigns

See, that’s what I’m afraid of. My husband thinks I’m being paranoid but I WANT trump to stay in the race because I have visions of Pence/nicki Halley or Pence/ Romney or Romney/ Halley.
I know Pence is not very popular, but if you combine him with someone like Nikki Halle or Mitt Romney, after Orange Outrageous he would at the very least, appear somewhat normal.

Putin dislikes Romney and hated Clinton. With Trump out of the way. Republican party will reinvent itself as tough on Russia.

The minute he's out of the Oval Office, the New York Attorney General will be waiting outside the door with indictments. The ONLY way for him to avoid prison is to be re-elected, and he knows it. So any talk of him resigning is just silly. It's him volunteering to go to prison.
