NYS has authorized restaurants to open for outside service (with appropriate table spacing), and is allowing the placement of tables in the parking lanes. Its actually added a lot more street energy than there was before COVID hit.

(34,136 posts)Up until after nine o'clock tonight.
Anything we do outside gets done before eleven AM or earlier. Today at eleven it was 87, heat index was 96. Sweat does not evaporate, it just saturates your clothes and drips off your nose.
it's just....horrible....have you ever been outside when they had those mister things going? Never tried that.

(34,136 posts)Though one summer during a drought I put a sprinkler hose down the middle of the dressage ring. Some of my clients told me their horses loved going down the center line because that hose sprayed water on their chests and tummies and cooled them off. These were not the soaker hoses you see today, but had holes that sprayed water up about a yard or so.
Summers like that, if I got overheated working around the farm, I'd simply go to any of the hoses around the place and run the water over me. Water out of our well - which goes into the Florida Aquifer - comes out of the ground at 67 F so it was very refreshing and a good guard against heat prostration. It also rinsed the salt and dust off.
I'm really glad I am retired now!

(34,136 posts)And my husband and I went to a little cafe on Monday. It was at the end of their lunch service time - they only do breakfast and lunch - and there was only one other customer in the place. We were running errands and were in town during late lunch time.
We tried to go to a drive thru but the line was way backed up. The little locally owned cafe was across the street so we decided to try it.
Mostly I cook at home from scratch. I'm getting my bread making skills back but I need to go back on a diet!

(27,811 posts)We were inside, but not near anyone, except the staff, who were masked and gloved. We wore masks while not eating. I have to say, it was kinda romantic. We didn't have anything to pay attention to except the delicious meal and each other. However, I probably would not have enjoyed it, or even have stayed, if I didn't feel very comfortable (the other customers, who were spaced out were quiet and reasonable too).
It was a treat, that's for sure. But a rare one for a while.
