'We have a heritage, we have a history and we should learn from the history, and if you don't understand your history, you will go back to it again. You will go right back to it. You have to learn. Think of it, you take away that whole era and you're going to go back to it sometime. People won't know about it. They're going to forget about it. It's okay.' This is after retweeting a fucking old nasty nazi in Florida shouting out white power to BLM protesters. It is not even dog whistle at this point, it is in your face, shout out loud, white pride confederacy racism. Firstly, telling black people that their demands for statues of slave owners to be abolished will result in their enslavement is both so ridiculous and so insulting that it is breath-taking in its offensiveness. Secondly, Trump knows exactly what he is saying and revels in its lack of coherence and the utter absurdity of what he is saying. Thirdly, he is talking to a base that would quite happily take America back to the confederacy and ergo the plantation era. Finally, he knows he cannot win the black vote, so a hugely obvious part of his election strategy is to stoke up a race war. At the risk of stating the obvious, this racist President has to go.secondwind

(7,771 posts)... word slip.
That was before Trump. Now it is accepted that there is no other word in the English language that matches the hatred the discuss, the vial gut-wrenching feelings that Trump brings to our nation to our politics. Maybe my vocabulary is not extensive enough to conjure up another word that matches the need to describe the mass of protoplasm living in the White House.
So at this point, I'm confident that "FUCK", when used in the context of something Trump, said or did will be accepted until that day in January when the new president is sworn in. If there is not a new president... all I can say is we are fucked, fucked, fucked......!.
Right, dear?

(6,871 posts)They don't need such statues to help them remember a shameful chapter in their history, and avoid repeating it. Modern Americans should take note.

There are these things called books which quite often contain historical information.
And buildings called museums which also contain historical information. Note: they are not casinos.
And, history classes are usually taught in schools. Less in colleges, but they are still there.
Apparently you managed, in your illustrious career, to avoid those.
History and even heritage, is more than statues and flags.
