I'm not a Rachel fan and I'm as liberal as they come. I appreciate her though, but am just not a huge fan like most people here. I know people will defend her, but to me she's a journalist who gins up outrage for a living, and to me the way she reports is just too much about her. She'll give 2 sentences of facts, and then spend the next 5 minutes explaining what the facts really mean to her, like her audience can't figure anything out for themselves.

She reports on facts though, in that she's got integrity, I just don't care for her methods of reporting the facts and then giving her opinion like they are the only possible interpretation of the facts.

I think she diminishes the ad for 6-% of the country.

A journalist that stirs up outrage? (Any asshole at Fox) guessing you prefer Thuck Chodd. If you are not outraged, my service during Vietnam, (I joined, my draft number was 324, I had no right to vote) was a waste of time. When only 1 percent of a population serve, this is the “oh, I don’t like being outraged, it messes up my day” society we get. Let’s all just be happy and calm like Mike Pence. The soldiers are out their, let them get mad. I gotta get to Whole Foods. Outrage is the only way we defeat this treasonous, criminal regime. Don’t give me any more ,”thank you for your service”, it’s as phony as trump. If Steve Schmitt’s step by step recovery of a KIA from battle field to delivery of body parts to family does not outrage you, then again, keep your thank you for service oitta my face. Rant over, lost so many brothers and sisters. Do not need Rachael to create my outrage. But thank her for feeling it.

My issue with Rachel is she spends more time explaining her version of the facts than presenting the actual facts and letting them stand on their own. It's the same tactics you see on FOX only from the other side. The facts are outrageous without her spending 90% of her show telling people what they really mean to her, she wants people to see things just as she does and not one ounce differently. I think she greatly underestimates her audience and it annoys me.

One of my sisters told me she watched Rachel a couple of times. Thought the information was good, but that she "parsed" it too much. It personally works for me...I hate it when reporters give you a "headline", spend 15 seconds on something important, and then move on like they never said anything. If Fox reported on this at all, I'm sure it consisted of, "The NY Times reported that Putin paid a bounty to the Taliban to kill American soldiers. Putin has denied it." End of story.

She may "over analyze" some things, but damn...I'd rather have that then the "move along, nothing to see here" attitude of the networks. And I don't want to get all full of myself here, but I honestly thing a vast majority of the folks here are, let's just say, a little brighter than the average bear out there. Except for the trolls, of course.(Hi guys! ) We may not need things to be explained to that point, but an awful lot of people need those dots connected for them, or they'll never get from A to B.

Don’t get annoyed. Dead soldiers annoy me. Trump annoys me. Going to the VA and seeing my brothers and sisters in arms, poor, disabled, Forgotten, annoys me. I need to see SOMEBODY screaming about where we are. I will stand with my outraged service members, and the families of those that gave all. Go have fun, don’t be annoyed or outraged, we got you covered. As we do on the battlefields. Peace. We are on the same side, just different perspectives of what’s at stake. I had, still have skin in the game. Some lost in a jungle.

This administration is sick, they are un-American, and their aim is to end American Democracy. I just don't feel Rachel gives a fair take on the news and her outrage rings hollow to me because she's always ginning up outrage in one form or another, that's her selling point. To tell you the truth, I can't tell which story she's really outraged about because she's outraged every single night and she's going to take 90% of her broadcast telling us her own opinions rather than letting us decide for ourselves.

And the whole point is that adding her to that ad lessens its effectiveness because 60% of the country doesn't take her seriously because of her tactics.

Just me, I need to see some outrage. Seems the Dem reps, and DNC want to play way too nice. Nice Did not work in war on battlefield then, and our country is at war now. We need to take outrage to the polls, I had no right to vote once before, they are taking it away again, and be aware, we will need a draft to supply soldier pawns for their global thievery. The right to vote is how we do not let that happen again. We got to fight this together, with the outraged of us, side by side with those with calmer mind sets. Blue!

I tell my kids at school there has never been a generation of Americans that have not been called on to fight in a war. Our generation's was VietNam. We both lost friends...you also lost comrades in arms. The ones I lost have their names inscribed on a wall. The ones you lost are burned into your memory. I don't know if a lot of the "younguns" here appreciate the fact that you enlisted before you were old enough to vote (and legally drink) with that high of a draft number, but I do.
Thank you for your service.

I used to love watching Rachel, but her presentations and over explaining have gotten exhausting for me. She will take a five minute story and stretch it to 25 minutes, often repeating the same thing over and over again.

When her show first began, I found her to a more serious and professional journalist. Now I tend to "skip forward" a lot, while wondering what happened to the Rachel from earlier years, the smart as a whip Rhodes scholar. Today she often comes across more as a late night talk show host, than a journalist complete with a 25 minute opening monologue.

She'll be running a segment and it's like she'll stop rolling the tape to explain the last 25 seconds for 5 minutes, like we can't understand what we are seeing and hearing for ourselves.

As far as outrage goes, I am outraged every minute of every day by this evil administration, the level of un-American BS they are involved in is close to ending the US as we know it. I don't need a newscaster to constantly drum up more outrage by bending the news to only her viewpoint.

I've encountered quite a few people who have said the same thing, that she is insulting our intelligence by over explaining everything. It feels like she takes a five or ten minute story and uses a lot of repetition and filler to drag it out to 25 minutes. This might be effective in a classroom where repetition is used to instill certain data or information, but it is insulting to well informed television viewers.

I remember when Keith Olbermann used to have an occasional "special comment" and everyone loved it, but he made it a point to keep it special by only doing it occasionally. He knew it would lose its impact if he did it every night. Rachel's opening segment is rather like his special comments, but not as well written and often less effective because of the redundancy. You can tell she is repeating herself a lot because she frequently says "I mean" and to me that usually means, "I've run out of material".

I don't watch her show as often as I used to and when I do, I fast-forward a lot or spend time on the computer. I give her credit for some of her incredible ground breaking stories though, I just can't spend that much time listening to someone drag out one story when there is so much going on in the world.

35. I don't watch MSNBC anymore
Mon Jun 29, 2020, 11:14 AM
Jun 2020

I know this will also ruffle some feathers here, but I rarely watch MSNBC anymore. I want to challenge my own opinions and beliefs, not reinforce them. MSNBC does little to challenge my beliefs, it's just an echo chamber for me that I worry blinds me to new information and points of view. I know most of the current issues of the day are pretty cut and dry in right and wrong, but I still want to make an effort to understand where the other side is coming from.

That's just me though, everyone has their own preferences, and for some people I am sure MSNBC is what they think they need, and that's fine for them. MSNBC certainly is a heck of a lot more factual than FOX or CNN.

I have to say I do watch less MSNBC than I used to. Though they are the best of the cable news networks, I feel like I am watching the same story or stories repeated all day long, which is frustrating as I know there is other news happening in the world. Who would have thought that we would have 24/7 news, but instead of MORE news, we just get the same news accompanied with endless commentary.

It often feels like lazy journalism, though I think it is also cheaper for the networks to just rehash the same story. Then if a big celebrity dies, they can just cover that, often for several days, because when a famous person dies, nothing else happens.

But I wonder if the people it's intended to reach will pay any attention to what Rachel Maddow says.

On the other hand, most people who would completely ignore Rachel Maddow probably aren't reachable anyway while most sane people, even if very conservative, recognize she does know what she's talking about.

That said, I'm sure the people who put together this ad did a lot of focus testing and know better than I do who they want to reach and how best to do it, so ...

I really can’t wrap my head around the enormity of this. This is treason. And our system is completely powerless to do anything about it.

The Constitution’s great flaw is again exposed. It assumes that each branch of government is peopled by men (back then it was only men) of good faith and honorable intent. We are powerless when every branch of government is populated by men and women without honor or fealty to the Constitution.

That the presidency is occupied by a man who cares nothing for the solemn oath he took to protect and defend the Constitution is something that was never envisioned.

Plan A appears to have failed and there is no Plan B.
