During the next two weeks we'll see Senate Republicans running in droves to abandon ship!

The crack that has been visible since Lindsay Graham expressed support for Gen. Mark Milley apology for being used politically by Trump in the Lafayette Park-photo-op incident and Cheney with her "Real Men Wear Masks" photo of her father, will widen and break apart. The Russian-bounty story along with Trump's cratering at the polls with the virus cases and death rate (highest in the world) skyrocketing, will force them to widen their distance for him for survival.

Finally!

But it's important it happen quickly because Trump, feeling like a cornered rat (and as the Republicans desert him he'll get even worse), will act in kind, destroying as much of our political and social processes as possible. He could even start a war with Iran.

Let's hope the Republicans' come-to-Jesus moment happens quickly.

The thing is, they have no lifeboats and very few water wings.

The GOP's problem, overall, is a looming obsolescence, which would partially explain their magnetic attraction to Predator Grump in his "riding on Obama's coattails" phase when the economy was booming for the wealthy and corporations were buying back stock like there was no tomorrow.

They surely know that this country's demographics will not tolerate their biased, dinosaur politics for very much longer. In a time when accelerating change increasingly stirs the political and economic dynamics, merely playing stalwarts for the wealthy and custodians of the MIC can only continue with an extreme grab for a more authoritarian form of power by seizing the system itself with brute force if possible.

That's my brief assessment of the predicament of the Grand Old Dinosaurs and their place in our system now. There is even a form of cognitive dissonance they create because they don't even fit right into the polarity of a two-party system anymore and their propaganda systems may realize that as well since they are trying to make our country FIT into THEIR politics within the ominous context of a brutal, one-party system.

In that case, we all would benefit by realizing that and doing everything we possibly can to help them escort themselves into a dark corner in our politics, (for the sake of everyone) or off the game board entirely. If there were not so much propaganda and financial influence behind their tenacity, that change would have happened earlier on. What kind of transformation or replacement will come about in that process will be shaped by this crisis and various events to come.
