It wouldn't surprise me if there are other things about to come to light, as well.

But a little counter-argument jiu jitsu may be in order, using the weight of these rumors (Trump dropping out, resigning, being replaced on the ticket by the party) to their disadvantage. This is a dicey little gambit, if it's just meant as a distraction. We can get behind the rumors and start pressing for serious response from Republicans: Make your case that Trump shouldn't resign or shouldn't be replaced. Here's the evidence in support of Trump leaving office, and it's multitudinous; where's your evidence, Republicans, for retaining him?

Trump will stay in office, but we can raise these questions in the minds of the electorate to our advantage. Even if the questions are dismissed as "just politics," they have the decided advantage of being factually grounded in the truth.

but is it good for Cheeto Benito's campaign? Once the seed is planted that he may tuck his tail and whimper off into the sunset, it's impossible to put that toothpaste back in the tube. I've run out of metaphors.
