You can see him talking on YouTube vids from years ago and his wasn’t near as stupid as he is now. Not that he’s every been particularly smart.

It's from 2002. He's still not particularly bright, and his overarching message is overwhelmingly sexist, but he's nowhere near the blithering idiot he is today.
