My dad was a general civil lawyer and did a lot of trusts and probate work. I typed for him.

He said "You get kinfolks and a dollar bill, you got trouble". That was his "first rule of probate".

They run in the house after mom dies and say "Momma wanted me to have this", and grab whatever they want, and run out the door with it. No shame, no respect for probate or anything else.

Most people will probably remember the scene from "A Christmas Carol" where the survivors - not relatives - meet in the pawnshop.

But these days, unless grandmother was an entertainer like Lady GaGa, with a wardrobe include numerous worn-on-stage and/or worn-on-screen items, or someone else very famous, and the provenance of each item is impeccably documented, no one is going to get rich off of Granny's wardrobe Even to think about selling it as opposed to donating it appears trashy to me.

I suppose people who actually would selll those clothes would not be deterred by a little thing like that.
