We were both early Kamala supporters in the primary and I wholeheartedly believe she would be an amazing choice for Joe's running-mate. Her ongoing work is impressive and speaks to her focus and vision as a leader.

for the VP slot. If she became the running mate, these would become part of the campaign. Even if she doesn’t, of course, they’re still part of the Democratic Party campaign.

Go, Sen. Harris!

...this workload is exactly what we should expect from every Executive position.

or they wouldn’t be. Senator Harris is a very fine person, and no doubt she would make a good committee chair.

But I try not to assume that the people who put themselves in the public spotlight are finer than those who don’t. Remember, while they’re trying to sell themselves to us they are not doing committee work. Overall, maybe best that we not be the ones making the decisions?

...it's just not true that all reps are hard workers, or, to the point, that Kamala Harris hasn't distinguished her service through her unflagging advocacy and activism within the system, including in her present job.

When people excel, they should be recognized, and I believe this is one of the finest legislators I've seen, as far as her committment and focus is concerned. Others may differ, but that's politics.

ranking, and why should his or her excellence result in a boot in the butt instead of recognition?

Btw, Kamala Harris has not finished her first term in the Senate, she’s Served 2-1/2 years of the 6 she was elected for. She’s still new To national government and hasn’t had time to excel beyond her fellow committee members, much less its most outstanding achievers. Someday, perhaps, if she remains in the Senate.

...new to national government and all.

At the rate of attrition you're suggesting, the future is bleak for legislators like Kamala Harris, Black, a woman in a hierarchy of mostly White men.

But, maybe you're right. Maybe they'll let her excel, one day.

you know (for one of the possible committees). are Senators Amy Klobuchar, Maizie Hirono and Dianne Feinstein, and yet another male, but a black one, Cory Booker. A redoubtable team.

Senator Feinstein is the current ranking member, previously chair and vice chair of the senate intelligence committee, so women chairs are not unheard of when Democrats hold the majority. Her current term runs in 2024. After her, if we had the majority, the new chair would probably be the Democrat with the greatest seniority on the committee.

And that'd, obviously, be Senator Warren's problem if she wanted the title and big pile of extra work that goes with it. She'd be better off running for a senate leadership position if she thought her colleagues would elect her. But thing is, considering she was instead already planning to get out within a year of arriving, I think she may be her own obstacle, not anyone else. Being a member of the senate's not for everyone.
