(9,760 posts)Men decide all the time, because in some way they believe it will improve their lives (usually by bringing them more $$$) to take the lives of already born human beings, with friends & family deeply affected by the loss.
But how dare a woman make the decision not to birth a new being into the world for her own reasons???!!!

The ...and Ill bet youll insist youre pro-life.
If youre a soldier whose main bottom-line job is to kill the bad guys if necessary, then that kinda rules out your claims of being pro-life. You just want to dominate womens bodies.
If youre gonna say youre pro-life, then you really cant be in the soldiering business, unless you work in a military hospital.
I should probably qualify this a little more. There are MANY in the military, probably most, who are in it for the patriotism, protecting their country, and all the life forms in it. But sometimes the grim work has to be done to back that up. And that involves "killing the bad guys." So it's a fine line to walk. But both are true. Which is why we need diplomacy, for example. If you get in a shooting war, and it's you or them, well, okay. I get it.
But that's still taking a life. And if exceptions can be made on this scenario, why is that not the case for a woman with an unwanted pregnancy? Why is THAT an exclusion? Why does that NOT count?
My point is - if one is going to plant the flag for "pro-life," one can't just pick 'n' choose what to impose on someone else with whom you disagree or who you don't think deserve to make their own decisions without outside interference.
Pro-life is pro-life. It allows for NO wiggle-room. It's a binary choice. This OR that. Period, full stop. It is a flat statement. NO exceptions. War is not okay. The death penalty is not okay. NO "...pro-life, except in the case of ... " It is SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD, ALL THE TIME, ACROSS THE BOARD.

(5,394 posts)"pro" for WHOSE life? A fetus's? A mother's? A death-row criminal's? A wartime enemy's? Some of those can be rationalized with fairly sound logic, but some cannot.
Pretzel logic has no place in life-and-death decisions, but all too often we find it there, right smack in the middle...

The Lincoln Project doesnt have an unlimited budget, so they narrowly target their audience. They dont have to persuade DUers or Democrats in general that Trump is a disaster. The people they have to persuade to either vote against Trump or stay home are Republicans.
The people running The Lincoln Project are very smart and over many decades have been very successful. We Dems could learn a thing or two about their techniques, like focusing and framing. Damn, they are good at that.

(7,263 posts)The love fest for The Lincoln Project goes to far sometimes imo.
I do like a lot of their ads...but this one, from the 'Responsible Government' statement to the pointedly right wing Pro-Life reference, shows their rightist agenda & political allegiance - something we need not forget to our own chagrin.

(9,760 posts)If TLP helps get rid of Pissolini, then I'm extremely thankful to them. He is an evil monster in every way.
If the Dems would have been producing such impactful media ages ago, we'd have far fewer RW monsters in power.
But aside from in the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" way, TLP is not our an ally to progressives.

(7,263 posts)This one happens to promote several right wing memes in addition to the powerful and righteous attack on The tRumpster.
I guess I just feel uncomfortable by the over the top luv fest for the makers of the LP ads on a Democratic website. Their ads are great - but they will turn on progressives as soon as Joe is sworn in as President, if not before.

Dan Barkhuff has now embarked on another challenging quest. He is the founder and president of Veterans for Responsible Leadership (VFRL.org). We started as a Facebook group for veterans of all services and all party affiliations frustrated by the election of Donald Trump and the implications for our democracy, he explains, Our goal in 2018 is to support two to four candidates who are veterans and have demonstrated integrity and civility.
VFRL has incorporated as a super PAC and hired a web development team. Barkhuff is hopeful that the organization will triumph. We believe there is nothing wrong with America that cant be fixed by what is right with America, he emphasizes, and we aim to do it.
Has Barkhuff taken on a Sisyphean task? Easy days may not be in his future, but that has never dissuaded him in the past.

They choose for good character and competence, not particular ideology. They're still small but have so far endorsed both Democratic and Republican candidates in various states who they feel are the kind of people who bring what's right with America to government.
