Do you think they read DU? You may get points for your righteous rant from DU members, but does your "mark" know that you've said anything? I don't get it. I read "open letters" to so and so on DU - WTF? Unless you send them some sort of communication, a tweet or an email, what good do you think you are doing????
Tell THEM, please!

(15,801 posts)My senators and congresscritters get phone calls from me, as well as postcards and emails. I'm also a big proponent of writing LTTEs, but our newspaper has a 30-day rule that locks letter writers out for a month after publication of letters; and during election season they get really fussy, reducing word counts and effectively extending the time between published submissions.
My favorite candidates have gotten samples of buttons, bumper stickers, and posters that I have made; to my great delight, I got yelled at in traffic by a GOPer candidate who didn't like my anti-him bumper stickers. And there are always signs to be painted for protests and marches and parades. Since I'm no longer able to participate in such events, I'm pleased to provide signage for those who can.
To be sure, many of those letters and signs and buttons and stickers have been informed by ideas and perspectives gleaned from 'rants' on DU. Sometimes I come to sing in the choir, and the choir gently points out where I'm off-key, moments of oops that help me to keep learning.
For the most part, coming to DU reassures me that I am not alone. That, in itself, is very significant for someone who lives in a deep red part of a state trying to turn blue. In the main, I come for the conversation and stay for the same. It's very much a safe place to practice my rant before taking it some much less welcoming venue.
Feels like home, most days.

(9,580 posts)I love DU and spend a fair share of time here. Most of those rants are so good, I just wish they somehow get shared with the people they're about, and who need to hear them.
Good for you for letting "them" know. Gives me hope that all of this great energy doesn't just stay here.
