Some folk don't understand the Southern heritage that we are so proud of. A lot of Southerners don't really understand either, but being raised in the culture, it is instinctive.
One of the things we have is good manners and respect. We respect our elders and we respect our leaders. Our good manners have taught us that it would be downright rude to call a traitor a traitor to their face. We wouldn't even dare to call a lazy bum, who wanted to live of of others labors, a lazy bum. We wouldn't call a pedophile a pedophile or even raise our voice to someone who did human trafficking.
Instead we follow the guidance of our Southern traditions and build a statue of them and put it in a public place. Tradition and good manners, two of the things that makes the South great.
When a businessman wants all the property and money, we pretty much give it to them. If their sons want to use our daughters, the judges down here will make sure it all stays quiet. If some thieving bastard wants to pump oil and poison the water, we don't make a lot of ruckus. We very politely find a way for them to do it without paying a whole lot of fees or taxes.
We respect our elders so much that we wouldn't think of covering our smiles and robbing them of the joy of seeing our happy faces. After all our elders taught us Southern manners and pride. It is our heritage.

(153,261 posts)I have lived in the south for decades and no they do NOT have a lock on "good manners and respect". NOPE.

(2,220 posts)Almost dead on how we would call someone a liar. If we really wanted to tell someone they were broken we would say, "Well, God bless you," or "Bless your heart!" That there is real Southern politeness.

(6,283 posts).. that when the history of the confederate South is completely erased, there will be a lot of people who will have a huge gaping empty hole in their life that even doubling up on the effort to destroy the repuglican party will will be unable to fill. On the plus side, the stereotyping won't be necessary, and the broad blankets will be completely justified.

The cool people of The South shall rise.

(6,283 posts).... and the proof is in the pudding. Just a short time ago you would never think that Florida, Georgia, and Texas would be where they are now. It's a little disheartening to see so many people lumping us in with the very ideology we are trying to change. There are a lot more people not from the south capable of employing logic and common sense as to changes that are happening here, but there are a large number of people who can't seem to grasp that a growing number of us are on their side. Most of us down here aren't mad at the broad blanket people, but they shouldn't expect us to not push back on the stereotyping. Like you said, "The cool people of The South shall rise."
