A police report obtained by the news outlet says that a restaurant employee saw a woman wearing a face mask telling two others that they were sitting too close. That worker also claimed that the same woman purposely coughed on other customers.
Cellphone footage shows a woman seated at the bar area tell two men youre supposed to be six feet away from me, before the melee exploded.
According to witnesses and the police report, a man seen in the video wearing a USA shirt then deliberately got even closer, escalating the sitatuion.
The boyfriend of the woman wearing the mask then apparently hit the man with a bottle before dozens of people wound up involved in the brawl, witnesses said.

(8,010 posts)One could argue that the boyfriend initiated the violence but that would be the old rules.
With Covid, it can now be argued that the USA shirt guy who deliberately "got closer" initiated the violence.
The ugliness aside, it is an interesting legal case.

(7,794 posts)That's the new dynamic and latest art form. The drunk-mouthies leading to the bottle over the head were predictable, celebrating an early style of the bar-stupid movement. The whole thing looked racial as well, there's the heady bouquet of a neuvo-protoriot influence. That the place was open at all exposes a classic patina from the gotta-get-outa-the-house eclectic of a baroquen society. The whole Gaudi affair reminiscent and a parody of Poe's standby classic, "Masque of the Red Death".

(8,010 posts)I only watched it once and was looking at something else. Since I'm not the attorney on the case I didn't feel it was worth studying it carefully.

(296 posts)Assault does not require physical contact to bring about arrest and charges. Covid has nothing to do with that itself. Coughing and spitting AT or on someone, have always been unlawful acts meriting charges and arrest long before Covid.
