WASHINGTON — The government’s top infectious disease expert said on Tuesday that the rate of new coronavirus infections could more than double to 100,000 a day if current outbreaks were not contained, warning that the virus’s march across the South and the West “puts the entire country at risk.”

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, offered the grim prediction while testifying on Capitol Hill, telling senators that no region of the country is safe from the virus’s resurgence. The number of new cases in the United States has shot up by 80 percent in the past two weeks, according to a New York Times database, with new hot spots flaring far from the Sun Belt epicenters.

“I can’t make an accurate prediction, but it is going to be very disturbing, I will guarantee you that,” Dr. Fauci said, “because when you have an outbreak in one part of the country, even though in other parts of the country they are doing well, they are vulnerable.”

New flash points have weighed down talk of a resumption of normal life and a quick economic rebound. The chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome H. Powell, issued his own gloomy assessment, cautioning lawmakers on Tuesday of an “extraordinarily uncertain” moment facing the American economy.

I suspect he and his odious son-in-law see the dead and dying as business opportunities..burial plans, mortuaries, crematoriums...we already know he has a soft spot for all things nazi...so maybe not truly paranoid but quasi-paranoid given that Donnie and his son-in-law define "depraved"....

7. Is this why DHS was formed? To defend statues? From Americans?

When the Saudis bombed our World Trade Center, and 3500 innocent people died, and we were all frightened of future terrorists, and some of us felt like we needed a special agency apart from the FBI and CIA to confront that threat, were we including protecting statues from ourselves in that mandate?

This is an AFFRONT to the people whose lives were lost on 9-11.

14. The Right things they win on culture war issues.

Anything that rings of political correctness to them they think is a winning issue.

I am very happy to see many of these monuments come down, there simply is no reason for them to ever be put up, the Confederacy is not our heritage, they were a anti American thugs who tried to destroy our country for the purpose of owning other human beings.

That being said, while I love seeing all of these monuments fall and leave the remnants where they should be, in museums, the primary focus shouldn't be symbols, it needs to be about real reform to a criminal justice system built to preserve white supremacy and enshrine systemic racism into everyday life.

So Mississippi removes that racist flag from their state flag, had to be done, bravo, but Mississippi has one of the most racist systems in the country in terms of preserving white supremacy. Mississippi's school system, social safety net programs, and CJ systems are absolutely steeped in Jim Crow and an embarrassment. Make those in power in Mississippi do something about those!

15. It's as if we're on a ship that struck a reef.

The ship is taking on water, but it shouldn't be fatal. With a bit of knowledge, skill and some hard work the captain and crew are almost certain to repair the damage and save the ship.

Of course, if the captain is ignorant, selfish and lazy he might instead have the crew rearrange the deck chairs. It won't help the ship in the least, but, boy howdy, everybody will get to see what a "take charge" guy the captain is.
