(CNN)President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel to Mt. Rushmore National Memorial in Keystone, South Dakota, on Friday for an early Fourth of July fireworks celebration and flyover, the first of its kind in more than a decade. The event will gather "thousands" together during a global pandemic with no social distancing, comes amid a national conversation on monuments with racist histories and also highlights local environmental issues.

Trump has made significant efforts to downplay -- or outright ignore -- the pandemic in recent weeks, painting a rosy picture of the administration's response and pushing reopenings despite the fact that 36 states are currently experiencing a rise in new cases.

No social distancing at the Mt. Rusmore thing, but people who have been exposed to coronavirus are encouraged to stay home. Still, masks will be available to anyone, previously exposed or not, who wants one.

2. Talk about INSANE !!!!!!!

Having been to Mt. Rushmore in 2014, the park is not set up for thousands of people at one any given time, plus there is an admission fee in order to enter the park. The Parking lot would be the only area outside for a band and people. And even that is questionable logistically. Where will the pyrotechnics be set up that could start fires? That area is so dry that any spark could start an uncontrolled fire. Is the Trump campaign ready to pay for that?

Between the Governor and Trump, holding this event is not in the best interest of anyone. Watch for spikes in COVID cases because there will not only be people from the Rapid City area, but neighboring states of Montana and Wyoming.
