Would you trust a vaccine that comes out before the election?

All vaccines must be approved by the FDA. Right now, the FDA seems to be permitting steps to be skipped in testing for various, possible Covid-19 vaccines.

The FDA is part of the administrative branch of government which means that Trump has a say in who runs this federal department.

Anyone who doesn't think pressure is being put on the FDA to quickly find a vaccine is naive. So if a Covid-19 vaccine miraculously shows up this August or September, would you be willing to be a guinea pig? Maybe it really would protect you. And maybe it would kill you. Who knows?

Anything produced by any federal agency controlled by Trump must be treated as questionable at best.

So, again I ask. Would you trust a Covid-19 vaccine that comes out before the election?

There won't be one broadly available by November.
But, if there was one, and it was developed by professionals, yes.

if the raw data was provided to them through the federal government. Trump has corrupted everything and compromised everyone in the federal goverment. I would not trust that the data was not falsified -- it is too far outside the expected timeline and too "coincidentally" beneficial to Trump to overcome my priors.

If the worst thing about it is that it might not work, then sure (if Medicare pays for it); if the reported side effects are worse than a sore arm, then no.

...will be broadly available before November.

There may be vaccines available for clinical trials and I would gladly volunteer as a test subject, since I know something with respect to the fact that we live in the Golden age of molecular biology and the molecular basis of immunology. In fact I would rush to participate much as my parents rushed to get me a polio vaccine.

All this said, my general feeling is that suspicion directed at vaccines is usually coterminous with ignorance.

I would regard anyone refusing a vaccine, the same way I regard people refusing to wear masks, as assholes.

I will not be taking a vaccine until months after it has been in public use. I sure don't want a political vaccine; hell, with the Trump government, they might put a chip in it to make me into a Republican, a fate worse than death.

If it comes from WHO or EU or anyplace else that Traitor Tot has nothing to do with, I'd still probably wait at least 60 days and then go for it. Really wouldn't especially trust anything before Nov. because that just seems way too convenient for drumpf/PUtin and fascists everywhere. That's why I'd wait at least 60 days to make sure nothing bad is happening to others before I go all in.
