The View from the Tenderloin

The View From the Tenderloin

July. Four months into this "shelter in place". Four months, and the nation is in a very bad place. We are quarantined internationally. There is no national, coordinated strategy for fighting this plague. The party in power barely acknowledges it. Nothing will be done in that regard until after the election and the new team transitions in. It will take a Roosevelt sized effort to right this ship.
Personally, I'm torn. Like many, there is a player missing from my life, and it's devastating to me. That player was there before all this came down, and will never be back. It rips me up. I've been physically damaged by the plague, and it's not over yet.
On the other hand, my home is locked in, it's not in jeopardy as so many are about to be. My home care provider is here most of the time, it's like having a servant. My income is guaranteed, no matter how badly the republicans screw the pooch. This, what will no doubt be the last chapter of my life, is strange beyond belief.

Hold those dear to you close

God save the Republic.

Trust me, I know someone who doesnt have that there and it is a big problem.

But yes, the GOP by supporting traitor has caused 95% of the infection and deaths.

Very bad people.

The player missing? Loved one?

I know I'm lucky. The housing situation is about to become a nightmare for a huge number of people. Yes, the missing player is a loved one, and like everyone else, I'm trying hard to cope with it. It's a process, and there is no guarantee what you will be like at the end.

A lot of people aren't going to be able to pay rent, their landlords aren't going to be able to pay their mortgages. Now, here in California, at least here in the bay area, there is a moratorium on evictions. That can't last, and the red states aren't even doing that. The shit, as they say, is about to hit the fan. I have a good situation here, I live in senior housing, and I have a housing voucher. My income is retirement social security. Not much, but my situation is golden compared to what's coming for many, many people.

Every day it seems is slower than the day before it. And the complete lack of leadership at the top is only making things worse. America is turning into a third world country right before my eyes. I never thought I would live to see this happening in my lifetime. It's going to take a near-Herculean effort to rebuild from this once we kick Trump and his goons to the curb.

I agree. I never thought I'd live to see anything even remotely like this shit. But you know, what may happen next could be amazing. We may be on the cusp of one of those times when the Republic stands tall. It's time for all of us, if I can quote my hero Winston, "to brace, and do our duty."

If we take one path, which is to reelect Trump, we will continue on this downward spiral that we've seen the last four months and we may never recover. It will usher in a new dark age and it will be unlike anything we've ever seen before. If we take the other path, and elect Biden, he will help begin the effort to lead the US into a new era of peace and prosperity which would lead to the proverbial "Roaring Twenties".

Me personally I hope to god that Trump is not only crushed, he loses in one of the biggest election margins in history. And that this dark world, run by the virus, disappears. I find it insane that the countries where the virus is being hit the hardest - are all ones being run by near totalitarian regimes with ruthless leaders, like us with Trump, Brazil with Bolsonaro, India with Modi, and they all are following the same destructive patterns that got the US to the top of the coronavirus food chain.

I hope we elect Biden and he will help dissipate this dark world and get us back on the right track.

That was clear, and I like the note of optimism. We CAN do this. I took the liberty of running your response down my f/b and liker walls, I hope you don't mind, and thanks for your input.

But it is becoming apparent that millions of voters are beginning to understand that, so there is real hope now.
