Florida Hospitals Are Flooded With Partying Younger People

The Daily Beast

Often asymptomatic, they go right back out the door—and into the community.

week ago, Jordan Rodriguez and his fiancée met up with two friends for tacos, chicken wings, and pitchers of beer at a local pub in Pembroke Pines, Fla., one of several outings the 38-year-old has enjoyed since the Sunshine State reopened for business in May.

“I wouldn’t say I felt safer, but I had started venturing out again a little bit,” Rodriguez told The Daily Beast. “I still wear a face mask whenever I go out and I have always been a germaphobe, so I’m regularly washing my hands with soap.”

Little did he know that the coronavirus was likely already gestating inside him. The following morning, Rodriguez felt lousy when he woke up. Initially, he chalked it up to a few too many beers. But as the day progressed, Rodriguez wasn’t feeling better. “I took my temperature and I had a fever of 99.9,” he said. “I knew I had to get tested.”

Rodriguez drove to the emergency room of the Cleveland Clinic Florida in nearby Weston, where he took a rapid test confirming he was positive for COVID-19, he recalled. His fiancée and his two friends got tested as well, but came up negative, Rodriguez said. “Since that day, I’ve felt no symptoms. I check my temperature regularly and it hasn’t gone up. But I’ve been quarantined in my bedroom.”

we are to continue working remotely. 2 weeks ago they were planning to do staggered opening. I am grateful to be one of the lucky ones to still have a job, but I wish people would listen to the experts. The sooner we do that, the sooner we can re-open.

Like them, I am tired of being stuck in the house. I would prefer to be driving to work than working from home. He didn't infect his friends, but where else did he go and did he infect other people elsewhere? Stay home people. People should still be sticking to only essential things when they go out. Work, doctor visits, food shopping etc.

So, contact tracing almost impossible. This story will be played out millions of times before we finally come to our senses.

Enjoy your quarantine. Good time to read up on coronaviruses.......

Of course, that didn't happen when he was stuffing food and beer into himself, but the PTB said it was safe to reopen and he was naive enough to believe it.

He lucked out, it sounds like his case is very mild. He'd be a selfish shithead if he refused to quarantine, but he's not doing that.

People are desperate to feel normal again and many if not most of them will eventually pay for it by getting this disease. Remember, this is a virus, not a character flaw. With no coherent nationwide mitigation plan, most of us are going to get this one eventually.

So I hope his case stays mild and all his nearest and dearest know the disease is real and being crowded indoors is a very bad idea, especially when you expect to eat and drink and be vocally social with friends. Not a good idea now and until a vaccine comes out.

somewhere in all his adventures he was careless or got into a crowded situation inside a building, car or public transportation, or touched his mouth, eyes or nose with contaminated fingers......or wore a poorly fitted or poorly designed mask.

Like you, I wish him well but I would prefer he retrace his steps and reflect on where and how he likely became infected so that he's helping all of us reduce our risk.

I suppose my anger comes as a career problem solver that asks "what have we learned here of practical value?", or is this just another sad case where we just wag our finger at the news and move on?

As an introvert, I feel for the majority who are extroverts who are driven to socialize out of need and habit. Perhaps it's up to them to design safer ways to assemble.
