I Hope The Pharmaceutical Companies Working On The Vaccine Learned From The Movie 'Contagion'.....

One thing I hoped they learned from the movie 'Contagion' is that the dosage form of the vaccine should be easy to administer.

In the movie - the dosage form of the vaccine was administered 'intra-nasally' - administered into the nose. It was not an injectable dosage form that would have required a syringe with needle.

An intra-nasal administration means that it could potentially be self-administered without the need for a trained medical professional.

Some of the issues that will have to be faced when a vaccine is developed will or could be: 1. it would need to be administered by a trained medical professional if it is an injectable dosage form; and 2. it would require the need for massive quantities of syringes and needles (which would probably face short supply because of the demand) unless they solve that problem by packaging it in a pre-filled syringe with needle instead of a vial; and 3. the need to develop a network of trained medical personnel to man vaccine administration centers to accommodate the people of the world to receive the vaccine.

We've already seen similar problems in the testing for Covid-19. Shortages of tests. Shortages of testing equipment. Shortages of swabs. Having to come in contact with potential positive Covid cases. Long lines wanting and waiting to be tested. Shortages of people to do the testing.

It is possible that we'll see similar problems if the vaccine is an injectable dosage form.

From what I've seen when they talk about vaccine development for Covid-19 is that it appears that they are developing an injectable dosage form.

If at all possible - in my opinion - they should be developing a dosage form that would be easy to administer.

The only issue that they may have to face is that it is possible that the vaccine might not be able to be available to the body (not be able to be activated) with an intra-nasal dosage form.

An effective, safe AND easy to administer vaccine - 6 months after the initial outbreak of a novel virus? Yeah....right.....

These things take time to develop, time to test, time to evaluate for side-effects and unintended consequences or complications, and some of this work leads to therapeutics and some leads to a dead end and some, in a minority of cases, leads to an effective and safe vaccine...and then there's this inconvenient list of viruses:

HIV? There is currently no licensed HIV vaccine on the market, but multiple research projects are trying to find an effective vaccine. HIV was first discovered in or around 1981...39 YEARS ago.

Herpes? Herpes has been known for at least 2,000 years....no vaccine. AT least treatment exists...

Coronaviruses?
Four human coronaviruses produce symptoms that are generally mild:
Human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43), ?-CoV
Human coronavirus HKU1 (HCoV-HKU1), ?-CoV
Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E), ?-CoV
Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63), ?-CoV

Three human coronaviruses produce symptoms that are potentially severe:
Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-CoV), ?-CoV
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), ?-CoV
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), ?-CoV

Number of effect "common cold" vaccines? Zero.

The last bit of happy news is that coronaviruses tend to be at their worst from November to March, COVID-19 appears to be bucking that trend in the USA right now...

The USA's ignorant rejection of social distancing, use of face coverings and tracing followed by strict quarantine is what has led to the current situation where 50,000+ new cases are found each day and ICU beds in places like Houston, Miami, Los Angeles are getting dangerously or completely filled...

The people who has decided that they either won't get the disease or won't get sick enough to die if they do are making several tragic miscalculations, but the most relevant one is this - NO ONE KNOWS the long-term effects of exposure and 'recovery' yet...

I'm just saying that whenever a vaccine becomes available that we make it so that it can be easily self-administered instead of maybe creating even more problems for ourselves.

There's enough time in the development of any potential vaccine to think this out the most efficient way.
