A TV reporter with cameraman was recently permitted to suit up and go inside an ICU full of Covid patients in either Texas or Arizona. As I watched, a several-person team was replacing a clogged oxygen tube in the lungs of a patient on a ventilator whose face was obscured. As the existing clogged tube was withdrawn, you could see that it was obstructed by a God-awful mixture of blood, mucus and who knows what else. The mixture not only clogged the inside of the tube, it clung to the outside and perhaps doubled the diameter of the last six to eight inches of the tube. It was pinkish-orange in color.
That video clip---plus maybe some autopsy photos of "concrete" lungs---should be shown each time Trump or one of his sycophants tries to minimize the seriousness of the Corona virus. This would be stomach-churning and disgusting, but damn it, so is the disease! It is horrible. It is painful. It is frightening. And, yes, it is disgusting.
Public attitudes shifted when the plane-loads of flag-draped aluminum coffins were shown returning to Dover from the Middle East during Bush's war. The anti-mask crowd and the willfully ignorant should have to confront the predictable consequences of their selfish idiocy.
And, if it ruins their appetite---GOOD!

(10,053 posts)While many careless folks out there don't seem concerned enough about their grandparents or even their children to wear a mask or social distance, maybe they'll care about themselves after viewing the video and start taking precautions.

(3,695 posts)What no one is talking about is that some survivors of the infection are disabled for months and can have permanent health issues. One segment I saw on CNN said that doctors now believe Ventilators can do a great deal and make the patient worse and that blood transfusions are a better treatment. I watched a couple of documentaries on the 1918 pandemic. Riveting and scary stuff that makes me worry even more about COVID-19 and our piss poor management of the pandemic.

(34,105 posts)trying to keep patients off the ventilators. At least a friend of mine who works in the hospital but not really with these very sick patients told me that. Ventilators can cause all kinds of problems when not used properly these cases must be so hard to figure out.

The biggest stadium in the U.S.A. could be nearly filled twice now with the U.S citizens dead from Covid-19.

(34,105 posts)a lot of ET tubes in my time and some of them can be pretty nasty but this is frightening. I agree we should be shown these videos then maybe the anti mask idiots would see what they are being so stupid about. Death is not always horrific but these deaths, like those in the video, most certainly are. I cannot imagine anyone having their ET tube replaced after taking one out like that. How can one survive all of that? Poor people, it makes me so sad. It is so hard taking care of people you know are not going to survive and you know there is no way to even begin to keep them comfortable. All around a very bad scene. Damned fking Trump and his bozo followers.
A short movie of Covid equivalent like they show to young drivers "death On The Highway"
