She has been running a fever for the past 2 days and she started dialysis about 2 weeks ago. She had some post surgery pain in the port put into her neck and they think it may have gotten infected.
They are also testing for covid19. The household has been on self quarantine since March because my sister, my daughter and I are high risk but with grocery shopping and her Drs appointments, who knows.
Waiting for results on that.
Extremely worried right now and I can't even visit her.
Please send positive vibes. I'll keep you all in the loop.
Update 1: As of 9:30pm my sister is still waiting for a room to become available. She is trying to rest as well as she can in the emergency room. She had dialysis done there at the hospital and a blood clot was found by the machine during. I guess it's the one positive thing about going to the hospital. She didn't have any symptoms of a clot.
Update 2: Not a lot of new information. They are still running tests but she got a room and got some sleep. They are talking about maybe sending her home tonight if fever gone and no other issues (a big maybe). The blood clot it seems could have been from the dialysis itself as clots can form during the procedure (scary in itself).
Update 3: My sister is coming home this afternoon after dialysis. Turns out she has a bad kidney infection and will be on antibiotics. Some additional tests are pending but I'm glad she will be home. A hospital isn't the safest place right now with the rise in covid19 cases in our county.
P.S. Although I'm trying to respond to each of you in person, if I miss anyone, my love and appreciation is still there. Thank you.

(13,058 posts)neck. I think the odds are that she will recover after a few days. They will keep a close eye on her to make sure that she does not get an infection and she may be given antibiotics. Of course it is also prudent to test for Covid-19.
revmclaren
(2,515 posts)but they have to send out for the results. She missed her dialysis yesterday because of the infection so they are giving her it in the hospital.
Thank you for your good wishes.

(34,195 posts)I've had groceries delivered for about 7 months now.
Walmart, Kroger and their affiliated stores, Amazon Pantry, Target, Whole Foods, Sprouts, many independent grocers, etc deliver.
You order online, charge a credit card (and even food stamps in some cases) and then deliver 'no contact' to your door.
Google 'grocery delivery'.
revmclaren
(2,515 posts)But until just recently she had to take Ubers or lifts to her Drs appointments since we don't have a car in the household and with my daughter and I out of work, won't be one in the near future.
She does now get medical transport to and from dialysis.

I have a photo I took over a month ago, when I was being ruled out in a Covid ward, of two very nice and wonderful nurses who look like aliens in their masks and shields. That photo is guaranteed to make me smile, but it was taken about 2:30 in the morning as they were busy doing their thing, so I'm guessing your sister won't be sleeping all through the night no matter how well she's feeling. But hopefully you are.

(2,515 posts)Over 12 hours now. She had dialysis done at the hospital but her blood pressure crashed (she's been having problems with it being low) and they had to stabilize it as well. They are talking about at least 2 days in the hospital but this could change at any time.
Thank you for your kind words.

(41,126 posts)this stressful time. It's good your sister's in hospital and monitored. Please keep us posted and try to get some rest.
---------
A sister had stage 2-3 esophageal cancer (non-smoker & non drinker) but had many colds, flu and bronchitis hell bouts after years of teaching young kids. Three times she went to the ER for severe pneumonia and was put on respirators.
She made it through those crises, endured treatment and chemo and is doing well, three years later. Fortunately she had an excellent team of doctors.
The woman was always a fighter, a real 'mountaineer' ha! and still is..

She regulated her diet ...salt intake, potassium, etc so kept herself from dialysis for over 5 years past when they said it would be needed.
She's a fighter as well.
Thank you for your kindness ❤️.

(23,091 posts)I have a 65 year old sister who has really bad lungs and is type A so at a very high risk and I know how sad and worried we'd be if this was her.
Any sickness these days is such cause for worries. My 32 year old daughter called me, she'd had a low grade fever with cough and headache 2 days ago, got a rapid test and it was negative. She isn't running a fever now, and no coughs but now her husband has a 102 degree fever with severe headaches & coughing & really sick. He also tested negative, but both are going to get the nasal swab today because they are worried with CV spiking badly in FL. It seems like it's just a regular (non-CV19) sickness, but they are quarantining now. They haven't been around us in 2 weeks, when we had a family dinner with all 7 of us, and none of the rest of us are sick, but we are now worried. 4th of July is going to be strange with just my husband and I, but it's necessary this year.

(2,515 posts)and taking precautions but that chance of something slipping though is always there.
Really hate all this and hate that so many are suffering because of the inaction of an evil man-thing and his minions.
Thank you so much for caring.

(12,377 posts)and because of your careful masking, isolation and hand washing, a lesser chance of Covid. Yes Im a retired nurse so I have some medical knowledge and background if that helps, but Im not diagnosing, just opinionating.
Hope shes home soon and doing better.

(2,515 posts)an infection.
Another possibility that came up was our cat Taz scratched her ankle deeply about a week ago and it was still very red. I had asked her about it a couple days ago and she said it was still painful but said it was nothing. But she doesn't heal quickly any longer. The doctor said it was a possible source of an infection.
Who would have thought it could be actual 'cat scratch fever'.
Thank you for your well wishes.
